Do you remember the movie that is about:

- a protagonist addicted on worm-powder (because of that lost in a bizarre dreamworld)
- typewriters mutating to ugly beetles (or cockroaches)
- Aliens getting blow-jobs (thereby producing a new drug our protagonist is keen on)
- a bird transforming into an ugly alien
- a homosexual being raped by an ugly alien (inside a giant bird-cage!) ?

Yes! David Cronenberg´s NAKED LUNCH !

I can remember that I heard rumours about PART 2 of this silly, bizarre and ridiculous "art-movie".
Were there any efforts on NAKED LUNCH 2 ?
Did anyone hear about that ?
Did anyone watch Cronenberg´s NAKED LUNCH (part1/2) ?

Still haven't seen it, but really like the book.
Cronenberg did an outstanding job on "Spider", with Ralph Fiennes.  Really gets inside the mind of a schizophrenic, not that I know anything about that . . .
Also, Lynn Redgrave is superb as his would-be victim.

If you want to lhave fun with some friends watching and laugh about this movie it is much better haven´t read the book before (like me)!

Otherwise it´s going to be a "depression-session" - I think !

The whole thing made me squirm, I lost interest about half-way through, lost track of it after I went to the bathroom and didn't care to rewind.  I DID like Peter Weller's tale of the guy whose entrails were pulled out by the wheels of his carriage with an odd "shlupping" sound.  Other than that . . . ... ........... .. .

Some people like cupcakes better--I for one care less for them

I saw a sneak preview of it  back in 1992.  I haven't rewatched it, but remember liking it at the time.  I think its appeal is pretty limited, though--doubt it would stand up to repeated viewing.

I saw it a little after I read the book and some stuff about Burroughs, which probably helped my understanding of it. Still, there's a lot of stuff in the movie that's not really based on either. All in all, it's got to be one of the strangest book adaptations of all time (its only real competition being Adaptation). A lot of the stuff in the movie is in the book (a bunch of the characters, Interzone, the Mugwumps, the "Black Meat," a few monologues), Cronenberg really just used them as a backdrop; it's almost like a fanfiction. Cronenberg once said that a direct adaptation would cost $300 million, be banned in every country, and make no sense; while this is true, I would have liked to see someone try to wrangle a plot out of the actual book. As much as I like the movie, I think that route would make something even more psychotronically fun.

What about Naked Lunch Part 2 - I have a dim memory of having seen a preview or even a cover. It is a long time ago.

I have the 2-disc DVD of Naked Lunch, and to my recollection, no one mentions Naked Lunch 2. Which doesn't mean it was never conceived-- they have so much 'splainin' to do with that movie, it's possible they just never got around to mentioning it. Can't really imagine what could possibly be in a Naked Lunch 2-- Burroughs never wrote a Naked Lunch 2 (though he did keep using Bill Lee and Dr. Benway)-- but then, if I had read the book before the movie came out, I probably wouldn't have been able to imagine what they could possibly be in a Naked Lunch movie, period. And hey, they made American Psycho 2, so who knows?
