I just picked up one of these Mattel Juice Box personal media players at Wal-mart for a clearance price of $35. I have been searching the web to see if there is a hack or converter software that would permit me to play my own video on this unit. Does anybody know if such an animal exists?

I checked out their website which appears to just be a flash image and nothing more. Mattel's own website is not much better. You'd figure with a company that size, they would be able to pay somebody to do a better job on their website.

Well dangit!!!

I don't know what happened. Not specifically.

I ended up posting this topic three times. When I clicked on the post button, it appeared as though nothing was happening so I clicked on it again, and nothing; and again. Well, I ended up posting the same topic three times.

My apologies for the error.

I've seen similar PVPs for children in the past, but have never actually messed with the "juice box" myself.  Looks like the player can possibly take SD cards.  I'd say it'd be good for a cheap MP3 player, but not too good for video, unless you bought a 1Gb SD card.

A bald man named Savalas visited me last night in a dream.  I think it was a Telly vision.

You are correct that it can take a SD/MMC card using their MP3 adapter. It can take up to a 512MB card. Presently, though, you can only use the SD/MMC card for MP3s and JPGs (which must be converted to JBPs). The sreen resolution is 240x160 and their pre-packaged cartridges contain an hour of video.

people are trying to hack it, but no one has been able to do it yet as far as i know.  it uses a proprietary video codec.  it runs on uclinux.

Hi,  I just picked up a couple at the Wal-Mart in Cary, NC for $13.00 each.  They had a limited selections of Juiceware clips for $5.00.

I need to check out a few of the surrounding Wal-marts for some of those carts.

I tried the Juice Box website to see if they had any more releases scheduled, but all that is there is a flash logo.

Anybody heard anything about any new titles being released?

Are these out in Australia yet?

Menard

I don't know. It is made by Mattel. If you have a retailer that carries other Mattel toys, you may want to check with them.

My local Wal-Mart has them for $11, I got 2 of them. Also was luck to find a few videos, and 2 MP3 adapters. Kmart still has them at full price. There has to be a way to get the video codec and use it on the MP3 adapter

Yeah, I picked up one with the same hopes.  The video quality brings me back to the days of RealPlayer 7, however.  I was personally hoping for some sort of TV adapter to come out so I could use it as a mini-tv.  It looks, processing-wise, like it could probably handle such a device.

It seems like a decent product I hope someone finds a hack for video. It would be worth paying for. Im sure some linux guru out there can do it. Unfortantly my linux skills are newbie at best.
