Finally got my hands on a copy of Seth McFarlane's newest animated series: "American Dad".  I've been a fan of McFarlane since the early days of Family Guy, and have been looking forward to American Dad for about a year now.

Is it good?  Damn right.

Is it funny?  Insanely

The show follows Mr. Smith and his family as they go about their days in normal suburban America.  Mr. Smith is an agent in the CIA, his wife is a ex drug/sex crazed homemaker, his daughter is a hippy, his son is a dork and they live with a German speaking fish and an alien that saved Smith's life at Area 51.

The show, from what I can tell, is mainly going to play on the current state of fear that America has been going through since 9/11.  The CIA father believes that everything is a threat, even taking gum out of his daughter's mouth for fear of it being a bomb.

The pilot I saw was unfortunatly only about 6 minutes long, but I can't wait for more episodes.  I'm amazed that Fox is going to be putting this show out.  It's comedy is very anti-Right Wing.  I'm surprised Rupert Murdoch didn't have a heart attack.

The only downfall to the show is that it's a bit too much like Family Guy.  The humor is about the same, only with political overtones.  The animation is also the exact same as Family Guy.  Atleast Matt Groening changed his animation style when going from The Simpsons to Futurama.  I don't know if the show is really going to survive on the same channel as Family Guy.  I know the fans, like myself, will support both shows; but I have a feeling one will have to go.

The pilot premiers after the Super Bowl.

I'm a huge fan of the old "Family Guy" episodes, but I hated the "American Dad" pilot. I thought AD was an unfunny rip-off of FG that centers around a subject I'm completely burnt out on- politics. Not only that, but I don't really like the Brian clone (that homosexual alien), and I absolutely hated the Stewie clone (the german fish).

I'm only looking forward to "Family Guy" returning to Fox... but I'm really not expecting the new episodes to be that good, either, after seeing how badly Fox has been editing the reruns recently.

Seth should've sold his new episodes to Cartoon Network's Adult Swim.

Yeah, Fox definently hasn't treated Family Guy too well.  They hate the show but are only brining it back for more cash.

True, politics are a bit overdone-especially now, but it worked for me in the pilot.  I have no doubt that it'll wear thin after a few episodes, but by then the show will hopefully have smoothed into something that transcends the politics.

I have a feeling that the alien and fish might be a bit much for the normal viewer though.  Hell, having a talking dog and a dictator toddler was strange enough.  I just have enough faith in Seth's creativity, that I know he can make this new show work.

Atleast I hope so.
