March 12, Sci-Fi Channel

------------------------------------------

A scientist in a laboratory attempts to develop a vaccine for the West Nile Virus,  working with mosquito genes. Therefore he experiments on death row inmates.

But one of those inmates tries to flee, and because of an accident the murder gets infested with radioactivity and the "DANN" virus.

This turns him into a creature, half man and half Mosquito. Now he is on the search for fesh blood.....

The movie directed by Tibor Takacs ("Gate") stars Corin Nemec, Musetta Vander, Patrick Dreikauss and Christa Campbell.

---------------------------------------------

Judging by the trailer, looks like pure B movie goodness.  And it's filmed in Bulgaria, you're assurance of quality.

You can download the trailer here:  http://www.upcominghorrormovies.com/trailers.php#mansquito
It's about 2/3rds of the way down the page.

I posted something about this a while back. Looks like it might be a fun time since they opted for the rubber suit instead of making it CG. Of course, when the DVD hits it will probably be a bit more gory and there will most likely be some gratuitous breast shots.

This Saturday (Mar.5) they are showing something called Skeleton Man.

And you thought Trek isn't cool.

Wanna know what to expect from SKELETON MAN? This one has potential to suck worse than the usual Sci-Fi Channel production.

i'm glad to see the director of the Gate get some work again. i've always had a soft spot in my heart for killer insect movies.

I am hoping against hope that latter DVD prediction comes true.  As hot as the trailer's scene where the gorgeous scientist gets infected and rips off her shirt to reveal her eye-popping pink bra and panties is...anything further may warrant a call to the fire department.

The title reminds me of the movie in Matinee "Mant!"

Pretty run of the mill monster movie.  They got to the whole mutation thing really quick and had a decent looking monster. They were doing a combo CG/man-in-suit effect which looked pretty damned  good for such a cheapie.

There was about  zero character development, so you really don't  care who get sucked to death next and I really don't think I would want to be a cop in a department  whose main qualification is that you be an absolute moron.  I couldn't  keep up with the body count , but it  was quite impressive.

The best part,I thought, was the ad for Bruce Campbell  in Alien Apocalypse which is coming up in a  couple weeks.  The giant alien termites, however, were not as impressive looking as the Mansquito.  This one looks like it is going to be cheese with a capital CHEESE.

I would give Mansquito a cheap cheddar rating on the  cheese-o-meter.

And you thought Trek isn't cool.

Did anyone notice that the "Mansquito," not the "woman-scientist-mosquito," was the one who sucked the most blood?  I mean, in reality, doesn't the female mosquito suck the blood of humans while the male mosquito drinks juices, gets the pollen, etc. etc. etc.?  I may be wrong, but I don't think the male mosquito is the one who predominately bites humans.  Did they goof up on their mosquito research, or what?

Mr Hockstatter

That sums up my feelings as well.  Too bad, it had a very nice look to it , well photographed, good atmosphere and all that.  Almost seemed like if you gave these folks some better material to work with they would be capable of making a good movie.  Corin Nemeck at least managed to rise to the level of ordinary, but I don't think I'll be making a point of watching anything with Musetta Vander in it anytime soon.

I guess the director's next project is something called Black Hole, where "An atomic research experiment goes awry in St. Louis, Missouri unleashing not only a big black hole, but also a creature from beyond that feeds on electricity through the streets of this Midwest city."  Who knows, might be worth a watch.  It's got a 'creature from beyond', can't be too bad.

They evidently didn't do any research on nuclear reactors either, especially the part where it's real smart not to be discharging high powered firearms in their direction.

And you thought Trek isn't cool.

So not as good as Croneneberg's The Fly, but a cut above The Fly 2--although the latter DID have Daphne Zuniga, and any chance to see this chick in a bedroom romp is worth the price.

Some people like cupcakes better--I for one care less for them

OK, so I'm a dirty old man, what else is new?

"Saturday, March 12, 2005 â€" A date that will go down in history as the night the Sci-Fi Channel at long last premiered a movie made specifically for their network that was actually pretty damn entertaining. Today the sun shines a little brighter, the flowers smell that much better, the well of souls has been refilled, and I can learn to love again. Thank you, Mansquito, thank you! "
