This is one cool western that is full of witty reparte. I like the conversations between Newman and Cilento (lot of inuendo).

I also like the exchanges between Newman and the bad guys.

Newman shoots the Mexican gang member
"Hey Hormbre, I would like to compliment you on  your shooting!"

Boone is negotiating with Balsam about the money and Newman chimes in:

Newman "Hey, I got a question?"
Boone  "What?"
Newman "How you gonna get back down that hill?"

You have to see it to get it, but it is great movie.

Haven't seen it in years. I remember it being pretty low-key, after your post, I think I'll give it another viewing

HOMBRE is definately a good one. The stage station, stagecoach, the Indian played by Paul Newman, and Richard Boone. Some desperate characters in this film.

I like Steve McQueen in NEVADA SMITH also.

When Newman wasn't afraid to do characters that were unlikable.

After he did this, "The Hustler," "Hud," and "Harper," the joke around Hollywood was that Newman would only now do films that began with the letter "H."
