FORBIDDEN ZONE (1980) - Some kind of comedy with music from Oingo Boingo starring the guy from FANTASY ISLAND tv show. I got a few laughs out of this film, but really didn't enjoy it that much. Enjoyed the early Oingo Boingo music video on the DVD, but the film didn't do much for me. Rented it from Netflix after someone mentioned it in an earlier post.

I think that this is one of those quirky movies that will either hit the right keys to make you enjoy it, or else just plain miss.  I really like it, but have noticed that I seem to be the minority.  I have tried to show it to several others, but with lackluster results.

For me, it's a mood-movie.  The first time I viewed it, I went ga-ga, but having a go at it later, I couldn't be bothered.

BeyondTheGrave

I enjoyed it when i rented it but nothing I add to my collection.

I unequivocally love the thing -- It reminds me of so many other things:  Bad High School dramas, hallucinations, acid trips, nightmares . . .
No, I probably like it at least as much as Andrew, perhaps more.  But then I'm a sucker for Cab Calloway . . .
I really hope they do a deluxe Masters Edtion 25th Anniversary box-set of it . . .
And pigs will fly . . .

I've yet to see it, but I'm surprised how many non b-movie fans I know who have seen it and remember it. I wish I had a dollar for all the times I heard folks say, "I remember that one! It's that weird flick with the little guy from "Fantasy Island" and all these weird people...." Was it a staple of pay cable at some point?

If you want to see another odd film with Herve Villachez in a small role (no pun intended), look for "Chappaqua" from the 1960s. While ostensibly about a young man going to an asylum to kick an addiction to mind altering drugs. It's really just a mishmash of weird images, montages, and handheld camera and editing techniques that were fresh and new at the time. Plays like a long student film, very much a product of it's era especially the music. Herve and William Burroughs (of "Naked Lunch" fame) appear briefly as 1930s style gangsters in a dream or drug sequence, and are quicly mowed down by gunfire. Probably tame compared to "Forbidden Zone" from everything I've read. But I wonder if the folks who made FZ ever saw it?

Y'know I saw the DVD at Blockbuster, maybe I'll check it out because I like weird stuff. (Ever heard of the cartoon show, Super Milk Chan? Man that's plenty crazy!) Thought I'm a bit afraid to see this one.

Now it's time to sing the nation anthem IN AMERICA!!!

I first heard about this film on this website but I still have yet to see it.
I called every single video store here in town and not one of them has a copy.

It does look pretty trippy.

Someone actually liked Super Milk Chan? The railer on an anime disc I bought made me want to see it. Seeing two episodes on Adult Swim ended that pretty quick.
