I agree, I was gone to Atlanta for a week and the world turns all crazy!  But better that than a spammer.  
In Fallout 2 there is a random encounter of "A Group of Unwashed Villagers Killing a  Spammer".   I like the idea, unwashed notwithstanding.   By the way,  I once read that this is a reference to a  film.  But I can't find that again.
