- you don't have to be familiar with all these directors' films to reply - although knowing this place I expect a lot of you are. just looking for some opinions really. I'm not going ultra-obscure here...
a) DARIO ARGENTO b) DAVID LYNCH c) COEN BROTHERS d) QUINTEN TARANTINO e) STEVEN SPEILBERG
my list would have to be:
a) Deep Red b) Wild At Heart c) Fargo d) Pulp Fiction 3) Jaws
would anyone agree with my picks?

In other words, they made H.P. Lovecraft goo, not H.G. Wells goo. They need to keep their mutants straight."-Joe Bob on FOOD OF THE GODS II

I notice I agree with you on the last three, and I haven't seen Deep Red or Wild at Heart - so I might agree with you on ALL of them. Cool.

a) DARIO ARGENTO - Tough to choose between BIRD WITH THE CRYSTAL PLUMAGE, TENEBRAE, and DEEP RED. But I'll go out on a limb and say TENEBRAE because I love the final few minutes.
b) DAVID LYNCH - Another tough choice between ERASERHEAD and BLUE VELVET. I'll go with my heart and say ERASERHEAD.
c) COEN BROTHERS - FARGO
d) QUINTEN TARANTINO - PULP FICTION
e) STEVEN SPEILBERG - SCHINDLER'S LIST

Argento - Sadly, I really don't care for Argento & don't get his appeal -
Lynch - The Straight Story
Coen Brothers - A Serious Man - yes, I really do believe their latest one is their best one.
Tarentino - Inglorious Basterds - again, yes . . .
Speilberg - Saving Private Ryan
