I hate you, Joss Whedon.

Don't get me wrong, I love the b-movies (obviously or I wouldn't be hanging out here), but if MANOS gets a blu-ray release when LAWRENCE OF ARABIA still doesn't have one, there are going to be repercussions.

Surely LAWRENCE is in the works.  Really, there are tons of films that deserve restoration and distribution long before this, but hey, it's a collector who took a chance on funding from fans and it worked!  So I'm happy about that.

Yeah, that's what I thought two years ago.  Bluesad
I do admire that the guy took the initiative to appeal to the fans himself like this, and that it worked.  It just seems like this is a movie that doesn't warrant or need that kind of treatment.

It is fascinating seeing some of the images from this film - some of it visually actually isn't too bad.  Still an awful film, but it's a memorably awful film for the story behind it if nothing else.  There are less deserving films already on Bluray.

I at least found that it has a UK release date of June 2012; a US release shouldn't be far behind but no date has been set.  There's also an interview from last March about the Taxi Driver restortation here and it's mentioned that Lawrence of Arabia was currently going through a full restoration, scanned at 8K (more than 4 times the resolution of Blu-ray but they'll use the same materials for theatrical presentations and whatnot) and would probably take a year, so it seems like they're on track!

Not sure if I like the sound of this.

Bad looking film is part of the charm...

They ought to do a blu-ray/DVD combo special edition in which you get a fully restored HD version of the film on blu and then the normal crappy looking version that we all know and love on the DVD. Or, I guess they could just put both on the blu-ray itself and then give you the option on the main menu or something.
