^ Where do you eat at where the people preparing the food are so filthy?
Jail? A dive bar run by a greasy slob? C'mon- gimme a break.

Sometimes I've gone into a place and the people don't strike me as clean. It's not a particular group I am leery of, that summation has stretched across cultural boundaries and age and types of cuisine, but if someone looks dirty to me, I don't want that person making my food. I got bad vibes off a Taco Bell in Maine years ago, just before the health department closed it down over a hep-b outbreak. Guy the other day in this restaurant had some of the filthiest hair I had ever seen, way beyond any normal "he needs a good shampoo" range, and I thought....nah. Gotta look out for yourself and your family in this life, and I'd rather support a place that maintains higher standards than to have a worker with hair that stinks up the whole cash register area be around something I might eat.

BTW, I try not to be a pain in the butt customer and usually tip 30% unless someone really gives bad service. I have even sent money back to the kitchen many times along with compliments. I like rewarding working people directly, but...seriously, dirty folks shouldn't be in the business.

^ There you go! Taco Bell! That food tastes like it's made of dirt!

Agreed. Way worse than it was in the '90s, and it was practically horsemeat back then.

Ever walked into a restaurant and seen the people working there and thought....m'gawd, I wouldn't want you touching something I owned, let alone have you fixing something I was going to consume?

No but friends of mine had a restaurant in Pretoria central and they named a burger after me: a Trevor burger, no sauce, no garnish, just the bun and a well cooked patty. That was until my vegan sister begged me to cut down on red meat.

Many years ago, before I moved up this way, I was passing through Inverness. Felt hungry and popped into a nearby kebab shop. I was walked in a rather dirty looking fat man wearing a string vest and with way too much body hair sat down at a table and planted his face in his food, eating it like that. Decided not to eat in that place afterall. The next time I came through two years later it had thankfully closed down. Turned out the fat guy was the chef.

no, having spent most of my adulthood in the food service industry, i don't judge people by what they look like.

So what a person looked like, the level of hygiene you observed, the state of health, there's nothing about appearance whatsoever that would factor into whether you ate something prepared by this person?

i look at 3 things in that sense. do they have any open sores? if so, i report the whole establishment. do they have their hair/beard/whatever properly restrained? again, if not the health department gets a call. the third is are they wearing gloves? and when i spend 3-4 minutes observing them, do they treat their gloves and hands appropriately? and again, if not i turn in the whole place.
if i can't trust the management to hire people that follow health codes, i turn them in, and i eat elsewhere. we get sweaty in food service, and we don't always smell like roses. we also get flushed from the heat, and people THINK we're sick. or we have tats and scars and piercings that make people ASSUME we MUST be filthy nasty people.

Yes. It does the kid no good; it's for the a***ole parents to show off the kid.

It bothers me too. I saw a baby girl with a stud in her nose the other day and it made me mad. Getting common to see babies with pierced ears too. Used to be getting your ears pierced was a kind of rite of passage, freely chosen.

Ash certainly won't get any piercings unless he asks for them. It should be something with a minimum age requirement.
