The original Top Gun was on TV this Sunday, so I made sure to watch it. So that's one crossed off the list. I was very pleasantly surprised, as I had little idea of the plot apart from the presence of Tom Cruise and Kelly McGillis. What also surprised me was how many lines and turns of phrase from the movie had made it into popular culture, like Val Kilmer scoffing 'bulls33t' into his hand, talking about writing cheques his body can't cash, etc. Seeing a movie of such pupularity from the 80s for the first time was like a wonderful kind of time machine, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. So on to Maverick!

I managed to find the original director's cut of Tokyo Olympiad on the official Olympic website, at over two hours and forty minutes long. The documentary was reportedly cut by the distributor to about 2 hours on first release because it had a more artistic style than the distributors were looking for.

I hear it's very good. I've seen parts of it, but not in full. I actually saw one of the sequels not knowing it was a sequel. Dead Pool. Came out in like 86 or something.
