this movie... so dumb. so macho. so 80s... so quite entertaining still actually

my mum, who was not a fan of letting my or my brothers watch violent films, inexplicably hired this vhs (an "18") out from blockbuster for my 10th birthday party. - making it almost certainly the first 18 certificate film I ever watched. it may be partly responsible for me being into bad movies as well

anyway. Sly rocking the license plate AWSOM, without a hint of irony, sums it up best

I dunno...I never like Stallone. My best movie of his would be DEATHRACE 2000.
I think what really killed Sly for me was all them f**king Rambo movies! f**k Rambo.

That one is an absolute hoot! The pinnacle of the 80s rogue antihero cop genre.

I've never gotten around to seeing this one. I do recall hearing about how people had supposedly walked out of the cinema over the violence in it, but I don't know how true that is. If it is, what did the same people make of Robocop?

surprisingly toned down, I thought… the infamous opening supermarket massacre scene is entirely bloodless. Quite a few ‘cutaways’ in other death scenes… (I don’t think I have an edited version)

I do like him as an actor in certain things, but yeah never been into the RAMBOs. especially part 3, which is a prime example of a completely empty soulless action film with a big budget

This was if I remember, during the whole video nasty stuff which the newspapers were all over like a rash. I tend to be a bit suspicious of what was being reported about movies from that time.

as far as action films go, if ROBOCOP is a 9/10 on the Mary Whitehouse scale of outrage, then COBRA would barely be a 4, imo

The final bad guy gets a pretty intense send-off though

Quote
There is an uncut, about 2 hour long work print of Cobra. This work print contains many scenes not shown in any other versions. Almost all deaths scenes are longer and much more gory. Some characters have more dialogue or character development scenes (Ingrid's photographer friend; Cobra's partner, Gonzalez; detective Monte; and some others), action scenes are much longer with more violence and deaths (hospital attack and attack on Cobra's place, car chase, pickup truck chase, and final shootout), and some parts of the movie have different music than the one heard in DVD versions.

Certainly a guilty pleasure.

definitely up there! There is the mighty SAMURAI COP of course (filmed in ‘89 apparently), but maybe that one’s in a league of its own.

I really only remember the grocery store, which was a hoot...
For years, there have been jokes about how nobody could understand what sly was saying, but I gotta say, this is the one film in which I truly couldn't....

this time I noticed there's what must be the world record 'most obvious product placement' in that scene when he's hiding by the gigantic Pepsi thing

btw when rewatching this I also watched 2 of his 90s films I'd never really heard of, THE ASSASSIN and THE SPECIALIST. both boring as hell... he's in his element in COBRA

Cobra was one of the last movies I saw in my hometown cinema in 1986 before I left home for college in 1987. Smile
