How good is the Indiana Jones knock-off sub-genre! Anyone know any others than what I have mentioned below? I know the character Quatermain was around before Indiana Jones, but the King Solomon's Mines and Lost City movies came out after Indiana Jones and were riding on the success of that franchise. You will notice quite a few Italian ones. I like them, they are really bad!

Allan Quatermain and the Temple of Skulls (2008)
Allan Quatermain and the Lost City of Gold (1986)
Ark of the Sun God (1983)
Bloodstone (1988)
Firewalker (1986)
High Adventure (2001)
High Road To China (1983)
Hunt for the Golden Scorpion (1991)
Hunters of the Golden Cobra (1982)
Jungle Raiders (1985)
King Solomon's Mines (1985)
King Solomon's Mines (2004)
Lost Treasure of the Maya (2008)
Mines of Kilimanjaro (1986)
River of Death (1989)
Romancing The Stone (1984)
The Diamond of Jeru (2001)
The Further Adventures of Tennessee Buck (1988)
The Jewel of the Nile (1985)
The Mummy (1999)
The Mummy Returns (2001)
The Treasure of the White Goddess (1983)
The Treasure of the Amazon (1985)
Next up - Conan: The Knock-offs of Cimmeria!
The Mummy is a remake from the 1933 movie.
I would probably add Jake Speed (1986) to the list.
Yeah, The Mummy is 'remake' of the The Mummy from 1931 but the look of Brendan Fraser's character is a blatant rip-off of Indy. Its like when Stephen Sommers pitched the movie to the studio he said "I want to make The Mummy meets Indiana Jones". And then to top it off he makes The Mummy Returns which rips-off scenes from Raiders of the Lost Ark and Temple of Doom. The scene where Rick and Eve find the bracelet of Anubis is exactly like the scene where Indy finds the Golden Idol in Raiders, where as soon they pick up the artifact the ceiling etc starts caving in. And also the scene where the water bursts through the pyramid walls is just like the scene in Temple of Doom where they are on the mine cart and the flood of water is chasing them. And the fiery pit in the Oasis of Ahm Shere is just like the fiery pit in Temple of Doom. But the main giveaway is the overall look and tone of the inside of the pyramids, its very similar to the look and tone of the Thuggee temple from Temple of Doom.
Agree that the Mummy was supose to be a remake to the original but its really a rip off to the Indiana Jones...
Although I swear Indiana Jones was also a rip off from several Asian *giant* horror monster movie in the 1960's to the 1970's although they didnt do many stunts, typically there is an asian character dressed like Indiana Jones as they explore thru the jungle and find little girls, an egg, killer mushrooms, lost satellite or whatever. Although typically they would also be the character that most likely turn on the party first. (sorry movies escape me currently but those really big fans to such films could list them)
Although... I think the asian insperation was based on King Kong and Son of King Kong (from the 1930's)
And I wouldnt be to surprised that actual Indiana Jones characters was also inspired from King Kong.
Agree on the mummy remake but, yeah, Indiana Jones is also a ripoff. The AVGN made some video explaining it all but I can't find it.
I really liked the Relic Hunter TV show, which was a female Indiana Jones knockoff starring Tia Carrere.

I found some more but I guess these just have Indy influences and aren't direct rip-offs.
Armour of God (1987)
Armour of God II: Operation Condor (1991)
Congo (1995)
Robbers of the Sacred Mountain (1982)
Tarzan and the Lost City (1998)
The Curse of King Tut's Tomb (1980)
The Curse of King Tut's Tomb (2006)
The Lost City (1982)
And I also think these movies played a part in the evolution of Indiana Jones the character:
King Solomon's Mines (1937)
King Solomon's Mines (1950)
King Solomon's Treasure (1977)
Secret of the Incas (1954)
Don't forget the tales of the gold monkey TV series.
I was just thinking of the Tales Of The Gold Monkey series.
There is also the sequel to Romancing The Stone, "The Jewel Of The Nile".
You could probably throw the Tomb Raider movies in there as well.
I wasn't really after TV series but since we are naming them I'll add some TV mini-series:
Jack Hunter & the Lost Treasure of Ugarit (2008)
The Librarian: Quest for the Spear (2004)
The Librarian: Return to King Solomon's Mines (2006)
The Librarian: The Curse of the Judas Chalice (2008)
You can add "Treasure of the Four Crowns" to the list.
Search for it on Youtube to watch some funny clips from it.

Did they originally advertise that as "the knockoff with the knockout?"
If Tia were, at different times during the series, beaten into submission and had sex, then she might be the "knocked out, knocked-up, knock-off knockout".
Yeah, I made that up out of boredom. :teddyr:
I think I've seen most of those knock-offs, except the most obscure. If anything, I'd like to add "The high road to China" was a pretty good movie.
And those Quatermain pictures by Cannon... those were utter crap. Worst of the worst.
The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor (2008)
Adventure movies though have a long history..from Tarzan to Sinbad to Allan Quatermain to Conan. Skull's mention of King Kong (1933) to me is also interesting as exploration of far off mysterious lands and places was a constant stable of many a 1930-40s film not to mention numerous movie serials...wouldn't be surprised if there's not an 1940s serial reminscent of Indiana Jones...

Wasn't Indiana Jones
supposed to be reminiscent of the serials of the 1940's? I thought Lucas actually said right at the outset that was the whole point of the exercise: to bring back the style of adventures he enjoyed as a kid.
One of the main inspirations for Indiana Jones was Secret of the Incas (1954)

Treasure of the Four Crowns.
For Gods sakes clean the camera lens.
Treasure of the Moon Goddess (1987) can also be added to the list. And I think we have them all now! Well all that I know of anyway!
I'm going on a spree to try and find all of the ones I haven't seen!

Ohmigod, someone else remembers that mess?
Just found another one:

Oh, and yet another :teddyr:
I think they both take their inspiration from that scene in "Temple of Doom" where Harrison Ford gropes a naked statue.
Not a movie, but a History Channel TV series: Digging for the Truth. And not so much the program itself, but the original host Josh Bernstein. Such a blatant Indiana Jones imitation - and a poor one at that! Yish.
Not really, but how about REMO WILLIAMS: THE ADVENTURE BEGINS (1985)

No, there isn't.
We do not mention that here. Or anywhere. It doesn't exist.

It has been over twenty years since I've seen this film, and the memory still hurts. Apparently it was originally in 3-D in the theater, that must have been doubly painful.

I confirm, it was a 3D movie.
Found some more of these bad boys!
The Perils of Gwendoline in the Land of the Yik-Yak (1984)
Predators of the Magic Stone (1988)
There was a 1989 South African Indiana Jones knock-off called The Jewel Of The Gods with Marius Weyers and Sandra Prinsloo.
www.imdb.com/title/tt0151131 (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0151131): AARRRGGHHHHH! It's on DVD!!! :buggedout: :buggedout:

Africa Express www.imdb.com/title/tt0096767 (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0096767)

Bad ass! Good finds my man!
Another: Jane and the Lost City (1987)
I wouldn't mind checking this out too: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0033777/ (http://jungle%20man%20(1941))
I used to enjoy watching Tales of the Gold Monkey. That was fun.
Does Cutthroat Island count as an Indy rip-off, or is it more of a terrible pirate movie? I haven't seen it, but it is supposed to be pretty bad.

It is pretty bad, indeed. And I think it deserves to be on the list.
I seem to remember a porn parody of the "Indy" films called "Indiana Joan and the Black Hole of Mammoo." Seriously. I'm not making that up.
