As the title says: movies people are always recommending that you have absolutely no interest in seeing? I imagine there will be a lot of classics/art house films listed here, but I'll start with
DIE HARD
Wisecracking Bruce Willis action flick? Yawn, no thanks.
Casablanca.
the lighthouse
Pretty much any prison movie.
12 Years a Slave
Hidden Fortress
and in general movies that literally show you everything that happens in the tv ads for it, for example Ma (2019)
if you showed everything that happens in the ad, why would I want to see what happens

Escape Plan (2013) Stallone, Schwarzenegger try to break out of an escape proof prison.
and
Death Warrant (1990) Jean-Claude-Van-Damme vs Sandman lol

I was actually thinking about seeing that one soon
Any Star Wars s**t.
Is it the great acting? Or the convoluted comic book storyline? Or just video game 'pow pow pow' s**t?
It's 1930's Flash Gordon vs. Ming s**t with millions of dollars to back it up. WTF?
even the old starwars?

Yes. I seen that film when It came out. I was a teenager. It held my attention as long as any cartoon or comic book. And that was it. It's all just stupid kid s**t.
And don't get me wrong! I like stupid kid s**t! But this is 1930's and 40's Flash Gordon s**t- It looks pretty- but there is nothing there. I'm 57. I din't like it when I was 17.
It turned into a million dollar cash cow. Because it's shallow Mickey Mouse bulls**t.
No offense to folks who like it. I just think it's all like McDonalds. Fast food movies for mindless drones.
ohh... yeah this new stuff is horrible Imo :bluesad:

FORD V FERRARI - OK, but you're not missing much
PARASITE - Good but not essential
ENDGAME - OK, but I halfway wish I hadn't seen it
DOCTOR SLEEP - Slightly curious, but won't go out of my way to see it
THE LION KING - Agreed. Never saw the original either and not especially interested in that one either.

If there was a way to go- this would be it.

Anything that gets hyped into the sky instantly makes me hate it. THE JOKER is a prime example. I'll probably watch it but in a couple of years, when people stop talking about "cinematography" and "photography", as if they had any idea wtf are those things.
Elf (2003)
Bad Santa (2003)

ELF is good, not great. You're not missing much.
I wouldn't say everyone loves BAD SANTA. I've actually never heard anyone mention it one way or the other. I've got no interest in it either.
I have no desire to see:
Any Harry Potter movie (but I'll probably watch one some day)
Any "50 Shades" movie
Robert Pattinson as Batman

You know, my knowledge of cinema is very limited, but I'm pretty sure they're very similar terms, if not synonyms. But every time I end up in a forum of some sort and they start raving about this movie, or any real life conversation, they
instantly start talking about both of those things.
Not to mention, the usual "OMG HE DESERVES AN OSCAR!!1", as if they knew what are the conditions to actually earn one of those prices. It doesn't even change anything for the viewer anyways so I don't really get all the crazyness.
Oh well, I watched
THE KING OF COMEDY last week and it seems that the plot from
JOKER is pretty much lifted from there. Even the reviews for that Scorsese movie now have mentions to
JOKER, it's like a virus that infects everything. Luckily is fading pretty quickly, in a couple of months very few will remember the best movie ever created and start talking about the next Nets**t show.
When I was a kid, the TV spot for the old Les Miserable movie (1978) showed the bit before some dude got branded. To this day, I refuse to watch that.
Similarly, there was another movie where some dude in old Western times underwent Native American initiation and got hoisted up by hooks through his flesh? Man Called Horse (1970)? I refuse to see that, despite the decent reviews.
Error 404 (Not Found)!!1 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5H0dKc9QG9E#)
On a tangential note, A Man Called Horse was cited as inspiration for the Italian cannibal exploitation movie Man From Deep River (1972), not to be confused with the Australian outback drama The Man From Snowy River. Come to think of it, a tribe of cannibalistic aboriginals running riot in Snowy River might have livened that up a bit!
