Diamond Tops Dylan As Oldest Living Chart-Topper
"Neil Diamond this week becomes the oldest living artist to land a #1 album in the 52-year history of Billboard's weekly album chart. Diamond, 67, achieves the feat with Home Before Dark. The old record was held by Bob Dylan, who was 65 when he last topped the chart in September 2006 with Modern Times.

Only two other solo artists have had #1 albums past the age of 60--Louis Armstrong, who was 62 in 1964 when he topped the chart with Hello, Dolly! and Rod Stewart, who was 61 in 2006 when he rang the bell with Still The Same...Great Rock Classics Of Our Time..."

This is why Neil Diamond is the man.  Not only does he slay dragons, he slays records as well.  You keep rocking on, Neil.  In honor, I give this:

"Song Sung Blue" by Neil Diamond

I like Neil.

Bob Dylan's voice is whiney and nasally and his songs are s**te.  I don't know why the world thinks he's some kind of music guru.

Neil Diamond is a little cheesy, but in a good way and he actually has some great songs.

I wouldn't call Dylan a 'guru.'  I'm a fan.  Then again, I'm only recently listening to his music, and am familiar with very little of his music.  But the dude's been able to sustain it for a long time.  Somebody else who's more familiar with his works can make an argument for him, not me.

As for Diamond, I love the dude.  Might be cheesy sometimes, but I think he's galaxies better than that little punk Barry Manilow, whom I find to be very irritating and uninteresting at all.  That dude's cheesy.

HAPPY: Yeh, let's pick on somebody nobody likes...!!  Oop!  Don't disappoint me.  For one thing, I have a friend who is very fond of MANILOW.  I always say, to each his own.  I did buy one or two MANILOW 45s myself in the '70s... I might've also bought TERRY JACK's "Seasons In The Sun..."  MANILOW is the show to see in Vegas...    I'd love to see it!

Killer: BOB DYLAN's voice is nasally, but I don't agree about "whining" as much as "moaning" and somebody once said, and to paraphrase, that a great voice is not necessarily a great ROCK voice.  DYLAN's voice has also been described as sounding like a cow with its leg caught in a fence... he may be over-rated, but I like quite a bit of his work, but would never describe myself as a "fan."  I even find his often nonsensical songs interesting if not compelling.

To each their own.  I mean, just because I'm not a fan of Manilow, doesn't mean I'm gonna slag someone who is.  I mean, I like Kid Rock and most people I know DON'T like him.  That's fine.

I'm just not particularly fond of Manilow.

All good though.

I don't slag anybody off for their tastes in anything.  But because the whole world is about me, I have no trouble giving my opinion   :teddyr:

Seriously, anyone who likes Dylan, fair play to you.  But he's just not my thing.  His voice grates on me.  Just like Amy Winehouse, Kasey Chambers, Missy Higgins and most country singers.

I like Dylan, to a degree, but I say he sounds like a "Muppet" type castoff character.

Mostly I like some of his hits so far that I've heard.  I've yet to buy another album yet.

But Neil's the man.

I like Neil Young too, although by my reckoning, he should be one of the voices that grates.  And yet, I like his voice and his songs as well.

Weird.

NEIL YOUNG might be favorite of them all.
I will listen again to NEIL YOUNG After The Gold Rush

Neil Young's pretty decent.  Wasn't there some controversy with him a little bit ago, with the "Impeachment" song about Bush?

Don't know the whole story there, but I heard about it.

I thought his performance of the new (?) song "Pretty Amazing Grace" on American Idol was a total flop. Not the actual performance, but the song itself. Easily one of the worst new songs I've heard in a while. Then again, I wouldn't call myself a fan, either.

Even a wonderful supremely talented artists can have an off day.  For me, Tori Amos has no equal and yet I HATED her album Strange Little Girls.  I thought she'd give each song her typical unplugged piano treatment, but the songs were all s**te.

It really pains me to say it but I never listen to it anymore.  I should have known, though.  The critics loved it, so it stands to reason I wouldn't.
