Oh no... another slideshow of bad movies. https://www.msn.com/en-us/movies/news/the-25-worst-blockbusters-of-all-time/ss-AALN1eG?ocid=msedgntp&cvid=fa362a095cfa4e779e495ca9d32fd729#image=2 (https://www.msn.com/en-us/movies/news/the-25-worst-blockbusters-of-all-time/ss-AALN1eG?ocid=msedgntp&cvid=fa362a095cfa4e779e495ca9d32fd729#image=2)

This one's not too bad, tho I remember enjoying Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves.

In Gone With the Wind's defense, it does mention that the Southerns want to rebel because they don't want to loose their slaves. The movie itself focuses more on the horrors of war as viewed from the home & the negative FX of trying to get what you want at any cost.

It's just really, really long; watching it is like binge-watching a season of Downtown Abbey.

I'm quite tempted to see that star trek one if it's as bad as they say...

It's better than the Star Trek movie where they go back in time to save the whales.

I was a young movie goer when the TRIAL OF BILLY JACK (1974) came out, and I don't recall it being any kind of big deal. Do they just pull these films out their asses? The TRIAL OF BILLY JACK was never a blockbuster. This moron's parents were likely drooling creamed peas when it came out. Fooey! Who piles these stupid lists? If they need a blockbuster BAD movie from 1974, try EARTHQUAKE. All the kids on the school bus were excited to see that one! I went to see it!
What always blows my mind, is that Lorne Greene is Ava Gardner's father! Ava looks older than Lorne!
And why is Geneviève Bujold f**king Heston? She is beautiful! She could hook up with rock stars! No! She's f**king some guy who is cheating on his wife. What a stupid movie.I was hoping Fred Astaire (!) was going to tap dance on his skull. Wait. That was TOWERING INFERNO (1974).

I think they're going by ticket sales; The Trial of Billy Jack was apparently the #1 film for almost a month: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Trial_of_Billy_Jack#Box_office

If I were to nominate something, I'd nominate the 70's version of King Kong. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/King_Kong_(1976_film)#Box_office Still a big financial success, but it can't hold a candle to the original.

The first film is better than its reputation and had a clever idea (that became overblown parade float).  The franchise was however saved by the followup WRATH OF KHAN which is a mini-masterpiece.  You need to see the first just for "VEEJER"...

"This is English courage..."   Oo-oo!  Who broke wind?  :hatred:  Nice shot of KEVIN COSTNER's droopy arse in the waterfall shower scene... "Robin of Locksley...!"

Starting with the 2nd BILLY JACK film, they were very successful and ran out of steam by TRIAL which probably still made money.

Don't forget STEVE McQUEEN as a fireman.  JENNIFER  JONES gets to plunge out of the elevator flappin' like a used kleenex.  ROBERT WAGNER walks out of a window on fire.

This list is so laughable, it could only come from the modern mainstream legacy media. While there are some sincere duds on here (Godzilla 98, Burton's POTA) the rest of them are average, watchable/passable or rage click bait (Gone with the Wind or Shrek). I honestly loved lists back in the 80's and 90's (one of my favorites was Inquest Magazine's Top 100 Sci-Fi, Horror and Fantasy films) because they would create discussion , spread word of films, reevaluate a film or watch films in general. Today lists like these are made by hack journalists or hasbin desperate to maintain relevance.

The factor that Batman & Robin isn't on here should also make you raise an eyebrow.

I wondered if Batman & Robin made a profit. Looks like might've, tho I'm not sure how much it cost to market, or how many toys it sold.

Budget   $125–160 million[1][2][3]
Box office   $238.2 million[4]

I believe toy and merchandise sales did help it as well.

I've not been able to get exact figures, but a quick google search suggests that after you add on marketing costs, it more or less broke even. I can't find anywhere which gives a value of what was actually spent on marketing, but I don't have a great deal of time to research it right now unfortunately.

What an expensive indulgence.  I saw it in a theater new and was one eye-roll after another.    :bluesad:

It most likely made lots of money when it was released to VHS (and DVD) for rental and purchase. According to Billboard video rentals raked in $15 Billion in 1997. I'm sure Batman & Robin got a big slice of that.
Example, Showgirls was a box office flop ($37 million) but made more than $100 million from video rentals alone, not counting sales.
