Flicks I've seen lately (some bad)

Thought I'd give a mini-review of some of the pictures i've seen the last few weeks or so...

1. Sahara

I say, screw the critics, this was a fun film.  I'm not saying it's logical or plausible, but HELL, I love the action scenes, laughed at the dialogue, and couldn't wipe the silly grin off my face during the "wind sailing" desert scene (if you've seen the movie, you'll know what I'm talking about it.)  Haven't read the book it's based on, so I can't compare them one way or another.

2. Four Brothers

Another good action flick.  It's not Shakespeare, but I think it's got lot of cool action sequences (like the house assualt scene) and even does a decent showing the four main characters as brothers.  Yes, there's a lot of plot holes (one dude flashes a gun during a high school basketball game and everyone just get annoyed rathering than running for the hills) and so forth, but hey, you expect that in action films.  Bottom line, it does what it does well.

3. Stink of Flesh

DV (digital video) film about a Mexican fella who's traveling alone in zombie infested Arizona.  After a few assorted run ins, he ends up at a house where a husband and wife have an "open" marraige (she has sex with others guys while he watches) while the wife's sister (a girl with a partially formed fetus, aka her sister, stuck to her stomach), likes to smack guys on the ass with a plastic railroad track.  When some militiary fellows fleeing from a zombie attack show up, problems with jealousy begin to occur, and we learn the dark secret to the couple's past (and what's with the creepy Giallio type young boy who never blinks?)

Overall, it's pretty amazing what these fellows did with the budget (supposedly just $3,000).  Not for the squemish, though.  :)

4. Lady Terminator

Some babe gets possessed by an ancient Indonesian goddesses, and she goes on a rampage, trying to kill all the descendants of the man who destoryed her physical form a hundred years prior.  The girl/goddess is now virtually bulletproof, with immense strength and pretty good with automatic weapons.  This film is, obviously, a Terminator ripoff with a woman instead of a guy and a bit of Indonesian legend tossed in (it was filmed in Indonesia with a lot foreign actors to give it more overseas potential.)

I was rather disappointed with this flick, the netflix description said, "This cult 80s exploitation film managed to shock even the most cynical of audiences, and it remains today a shameless cinematic feast of sex, gore, and goddesses."  Er.. okay.  I know it was controversial in Indonesia where it was originally banned for a bit, but it seemed seriously lacking in gore and sex... (maybe I saw a censored version?)  I mean, we do get the see the main girl's breasts a couple of times (yes, strangely enough, none of the girl Lady Terminator is hunting down, even though she has a love scene) and we get some shootings, car chases, etc.  Probably the coolest scene is when LT punches out a security guard and empty like ten bullters into his stomach (lots of bloody squibs on that poor guy.)  But overall, the film didn't really hold my interest.

Actually, what was MORE interesting to me was the brief documentary on Indonesian cinema, especially during the "golden age" of horror and action flicks.

So anyway, that's all for now!  :)

Stink of Flesh sounds like a good one.

Been wanting to see LADY TERMINATOR. Didn't know the film was Indonesian. Just saw JUNGLE VIRGIN FORCE which is Indonesian and worth the viewing.

SAHARA was fun, but I had just seen NATIONAL TREASURE not long before, so I was a bit dissappointed in SAHARA which turned out to be a fun action film and that's about it.

STINK OF FLESH sounds strange enough to for me to keep a lookout for it.

No desire to see FOUR BROTHERS.

I dunno.. to me, National Treasure started out okay, but after the stealing the Declartion of Independence, it just dragged to me.  It was like Indiana Jones except without the action or humor.  Personally, I had WAY more fun with Sahara, and unlike NT, would watch that film again.

>STINK OF FLESH sounds strange enough to for me to keep a lookout for it.

It was, although it bugged me how they showed the guys ass more often than naked boobs...

Seriously though, on a plot point (not really a spoiler) I did think it was a little silly they main characters choice of weapon was kind of ridiculous (he tends to brawl with them hand to hand and then uses a hammer and large spikes to finish them off.)  I mean, okay, he says he doesn't use guns because it's impossible to find ammo, but STILL, I'd want a better weapon that a freaking hammer, heck a shovel at least, sometimes I would have to get right NEXT to the zombies to use.

You're missing out!  :)

Sahara - This one keeps slipping past me somehow.  I never seem to think about renting it.  I'll probably catch it on cable at some point.

Four Brothers - I have this one on DVD just sitting on my shelf.  I haven't gotten around to see it just yet.  I'm not a big John Singleton fan, but Mark Wahlberg can be one hell of an actor when he wants to.

Stink Of Flesh - Sounds pretty good.  I've added it to my netflix, and I'll post a review when I finally watch it.  From the things I've read about the film, it sounds like Meat Market which is a film you should certainly check out.  There is enough explicit sex, zombies, and gore in that film to satisfy any one.

Lady Terminator - I've heard about this one over the years, but haven't seen it.  I just added it to my netflix.  Sounds like bad fun.

Hey, just checked this out on Netflix (getting ready to add it to my queue) and guess, what?  There's also a sequel, Meat Market 2... have you had a chance to see that as well?  I'll check the first movie first... :)

BTM,

I haven't seen Meat Market 2 yet.  I got a copy of the original through a friend and really enjoyed it.  I even used Brian, the director of the film, in numerous college papers as a source and for interviews.  Great guy.

I kind of want to see Four Brothers, I like action and revenge flicks.

I got Lady Terminator mixed up with R.O.T.O.R for some reason.
Now it's time to sing the nation anthem IN AMERICA!!!

The Four Brothers idea isn't bad. Might be interesting, but will have to wait for cable.
