OT: Jason to get his 12th film!!!!

I'm a huge fan of the Friday 13th series of films, so I'm excited as hell to read that New Line is releasing a new one on Oct 13 this year! Here's the article from Variety:

"A decade ago, Fox aggressively staked out a July 4 holiday bow for its summer tentpole "Independence Day""Independence Day" with a memorable promopromo during the NFL's big game. The tagline: "Enjoy the Super Bowl. It May Be Your Last."

It practically etched the July 4 date in moviegoers' minds.

So it's no surprise that Fox is revisiting the date-marking strategy for "The Omen 666."

The studio has staked out June 6, 2006, for its domestic and international launch -- even though it's a Tuesday -- to take advantage of the "666" resonance.

"Omen 666," a contemporized remake of the 1976 chiller, stars Liev SchreiberLiev Schreiber and Julia StilesJulia Stiles as a couple bedeviled by their son -- who also happens to be the Antichrist -- assisted by a scheming nanny portrayed by Mia Farrow.

Fox isn't the only studio playing dating games.

New Line is hoping to release its 10th film in the sturdy "Friday the 13th"" franchise on -- surprise -- Friday, Oct. 13. Studio's launched development of a script about Jason Voorhees' origins."

Forget the Omen remake. I can't wait to see another Jason film. I thought that New Line had given up on the franchise after Freddy Vs. Jason but apparently not. Jason fans rejoice!!!!

Sons of b***hes stole my idea. I've been off and on writing a story about the antichrist child being born on June 6, 2006 to a pair of unlikely newlyweds with Christian backgrounds. The story has special meaning to me because June 6 is my birthday, and June 6, 2006 is my 21st birthday. I've always liked the idea that at some point in my life, my birthday will intersect the unholiest of unholy days in remembered history. I want my idea back!

Excellent. I got "Crystal Lake Memories" for Christmas, a must-read for true Friday the 13th buffs. Pretty much everything you ever could know about the franchise is in there.

Can't wait for the next film.

wait... wasn't there already a film about jason's origins, called... FRIDAY THE 13TH?! besides the "why" of his reasons for being an undead killing machine, it pretty much explains who he was, where he came from, how he died, etc...

Jason was supposedly dead at the bottom of a lake in Friday the 13th. We've actually never found out just how he managed to be alive and well in Part 2, nor how he came back as a zombie in Part 4. (I mark his debut as zombie extraordinaire in Part 4, not 6. There's no way he survived being hung and the axe to his head in Part 3.) In Part 8, a flashback/dream/drug induced hallucination from Final Girl might lead one to think Jason was undead for the entire time he was in Crystal Lake, though that would really screw with the *cough* continuity.

Yeah, that certainly would break the storyline set in the first films.

I always rather liked hillbilly Jason from F13 Pt2, made the character a bit more real than your normal slasher.

My only interest remaining in the Friday the 13th series is if it will end after the 13th movie... otherwise, I couldn't care less. Guy in a mask, ho hum. Made to order victims, ho hum. Pointless sequels galore, ho hum.

ToyMan, I'm a big fan of Bay Of Blood AKA Twitch Of The Death Nerve. Obvious inspiration for F13th, and a great film to boot.

The ending is absolutely priceless.

Hmmmm . . . another Jason film. I wonder if he'll kill a lot of people and then at the end, it will seem like he's dead, but he'll rise to kill again. You're right. I can't wait to see the exact same movie for the 12th time.
