The Burgomaster

I guess Kolchak is stalking somewhere else these days . . .

Burgo,

I was thinking about Darren just yesterday.  Someone asked me who was in Duel and for some reason I spouted out Darren McGavin without any reason.

The man will be missed.

A bald man named Savalas visited me last night in a dream.  I think it was a Telly vision.

Menard

I was thinking of Darren McGavin when I was replying to the post about Don Knotts death; specifically because of the two of them being in the Disney film No Deposit, No Return.

On the news last night, they had a short tribute to Don Knotts, then they mentioned Darren McGavin's death as a sidenote. It seems to me that Darren deserves better than to be a sidenote. We will always remember him as Kolchak (despite somebody else trying to play the role), but there was a lot more he did and most every one of us has a favorite role of his outside of Kolchak.

He contributed greatly to the entertainment landscape and will be missed.

AndyC

I definitely remember him best as Kolchak, but second would have to be Ralphie's furnace-fighting father in A Christmas Story.

Man, Don Knotts and Darren McGavin in one day? That's too much.

Kneel before Dr. Hell, the ruler of this world!

I think Darren McGavin's best performance was as the drug pusher in THE MAN WITH THE GOLDEN ARM.  If you have never seen that movie, put it at the top of your list.

Wait the man who played Raphie's Dad was also Kolchak?

Now I didn't see any of the Night Stalker however I have trouble picturing Raphie's dad as a cop (that what is right?)

I'm surprised.

Christmas Story, the movie I've seen 500 times.
Now it's time to sing the nation anthem IN AMERICA!!!

Ash

He was up there in age.
He was born in 1922 and when he played the "Old Man" in A Christmas Story in 1983, he was in his 60's.

I also remember him in Hangar 18.

Menard

Kolchak was a reporter who was a thorn in the side to cops.

Oh he was a reporter.

Kolchak should more like a cop or a agent name to me.

And I didn't know he was in Duel as well. That a good movie.

Never forget his immortal 'Hanger 18'!

Darren McGavin was not in DUEL.  It was Dennis Weaver.
"Do not walk behind me, for I may not lead. Do not walk ahead of me, for I may not follow. Do not walk beside me either. Just pretty much leave me the hell alone."

The Burgomaster

He was also very good as Officer Mike Damon in THE DELICATE DELINQUENT (with Jerry Lewis).
"Do not walk behind me, for I may not lead. Do not walk ahead of me, for I may not follow. Do not walk beside me either. Just pretty much leave me the hell alone."

Mr_Vindictive

Yeah, he wasn't in Duel.  Someone asked me who the main actor was in the film.  For some reason I wanted to say Darren McGavin eventhough it was Dennis Weaver.  Probably because Weaver played McCloud which reminds me of McGavin.  That's probably what the association was.

And Dennis Weaver died today.  Wow.
