Yeah, Roth was good even in chimp make up. You have to say he was the best thing in Planet of the Apes.

And you thought Trek isn't cool.

What about Sergio Leone's "Once Upon a Time in America"?

That movie KICKED ASS!

Neville

Didn't like it, for some reason. I've seen the definitive cut several times, but can't root for any of the characters. In other films, that's not a problem, but it seems to be for this one.
Due to the horrifying nature of this film, no one will be admitted to the theatre.

plan9superfan

What, you mean you can'tr root for Robert DeNiro? Shame on you! :)

And I loved it because it's the only gangster movie I've seen that has a sex scene. That makes it OK in my book.

Besides, Leone is a genius.

Neville

Leone is a genious, true, but "Once upon a time in America" is one of his weaker films. I'd say it's even worse that "Duck, you sucker".

And there are other gangster movies with sex scenes, "Carlito's way" has a great one between Pacino and Penelope Ann miller.
Due to the horrifying nature of this film, no one will be admitted to the theatre.

plan9superfan

Haven't seen "Carlito's Way", probably will now. Did you know that the greatest comedian of my country has a cameo in that movie?

Fearless Freep

I'd like to put in a nomination for "He Walked By Night" simply because it inspired so many works that came after it.

Going places unmapped, to do things unplanned, to people unsuspecting

Neville

What country are you from? The only character that I can think of in that movie that looks like a comedian is Pachanga, which De Palma explains on the DVD is played by some hispanic TV host.
Due to the horrifying nature of this film, no one will be admitted to the theatre.

So you've NEVER heard of Emilio Porcel?

The mighty Olmedo-Porcel duo?

Man, you've been missing something!

Down here, they are a staple of 'national '80s comedies.

The Burgomaster

Let's not forget MEAN STREETS, an early, raw Martin Scorsese wiseguy movie.  I like it more every time I watch it.
"Do not walk behind me, for I may not lead. Do not walk ahead of me, for I may not follow. Do not walk beside me either. Just pretty much leave me the hell alone."

'Charley Varrick' is pretty good too.

I just saw one the other night that was GREAT-called Killing Zoe! WOW! It a bank heist in France that goes wrong in a really, super bloody way. Lesson learned: never rob a bank with a sadistic junkie as the one in charge.

How I hated that one! The only thing I found worthwhile was Julie Delphy.
Due to the horrifying nature of this film, no one will be admitted to the theatre.

How about a list of favorite bank robbery/heist films.

1) Dog Day Afternoon
2) Heat
3) Kellys Hero's
4) Long Riders
5) Resevior Dogs
6) White Heat
7) Bonnie and Clyde
8) Three Kings
9) Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid

Ok, they're not in order and they may not be the best ones. Just starting a list.
