Favorite Godzilla design

Since everyone listed Godzilla in their favorite monsters list and I don't think he should count 'cuz he's the star, here's  a new question for you all.  What's your favorite Godzilla design?  Myself, I think the one in vs. Biollante was the best.  That and the retro-evil one in GMK, but we haven't really seen that one in action yet.  I just love the way the one in Biollante's head and mouth moved.  It looked like they took the most time and care designing it, giving it moving lips and triple rows of teeth.  Great design.  Just one question, could someone please tell me what the hell heisei means?  I've looked all over and can't figure it out.

I love the spines and the leaner, meaner look.

Squishy

The shot in Biollante in which the monster is flinging all her tentacles at Godzilla at once is my all-time favorite, because Godzilla's head whips back and forth trying to focus his attack against these multiple targets. He was startled and the suit conveyed that. At that moment, he truely became more than a rubber suit.

The Millenium design (shown above) will certainly offend traditionalists, even though I personally like it. The head reminds me of the design from King Kong Versus Godzilla and those sharp, long spines are very cool. I also enjoyed the sizzling "fire" ray.

The latest design is basically a new take on the very first design, but the monster himself is meaner and has freer and faster movement; the beam is also back to basics but very souped-up indeed. If you haven't seen it, the eyes are greyish-black with white "pupils"--resembling the sometimes-reflective eyes of the original design--which is very unsettling, especially since he can still see with them.

I think we can all agree that the suit from the end of the Showa series--Godzilla vs Megalon and vs Mecha-Godzilla is a dead loss, especially since it was visibly falling apart. The sleepy-eyed head from Son of Godzilla doesn't have many fans, either, I would imagine.

Showa and Heisei are Japanese year-system names, based on the ruling Emperor at the time. The Showa period ran from 1926 to 1988, and the Heisei period from 1989. (Godzilla 1985 is technically a Heisei film because it relates directly to the rest of the Heisei series.) Because the latest films (G2000, GXM, GMK) are independent of the other series (except the original), they're starting to be called the Millenium series.

I like the original bulky costume, the one used in mortha vs godzilla and ghiorah the 3 headed monster, and the one in Biollante. They used one of the weaker looking costumes all the way from Destroy all monsters to Godzlla vs gigan. A new similar suit was used for megalon and in godzilla vs mechagodzilla and terror of mechagodzilla a new suit was employed that looked a little better.

Thanks much, that clears up a lot.  I always thought it related to something within the particular series and was always killing myself paying WAY too much attention to the movies to figure out what.  I always knew where the series were split up, I just never knew why.

My 3 favorites for suit design are: King Kong vs. Godzilla, Godzilla 2000, and Godzilla 1985.

Flangepart

Personaly, i've always likes the G Vs. Mothera (Hensai). The face and head just look cool to me., though i do think the body was way to "Muscle bound".

Hairzilla

My choice for the BEST Godzilla design would be, without a doubt,  from GODZILLA 1985! With the exception of those large, brown eyes, this was SUCH a cool design, in SO many ways, that I can't understand why Toho kept altering it from there. The sloping brow, which always seemed to set the eyes into a deadly stare. The individual, elongated fangs - a feature I thought FAR superior to the double rows of teeth that would come later. The body had musculature - but not overly so, and the upper legs weren't ridiculously huge. [As opposed to the costume used in GODZILLA vs SPACE GODZILLA which goes to the opposite extreme - fat boy's back!]

My second favorite would have to be from GODZILLA 2000. As Squishy also pointed out, the head easily had the most reptilian look since GODZILLA vs KING KONG, and the body design, as well as texture, was more convincing and looked more like an upright walking animal than ever before... Although, I've heard the opinion expressed that certain aspects of that suit seemed to be suspiciously similiar to the look of Amerizilla.

boy there really alot of designs for the big G ; i happen to like the heisei designs- the muscular look(probably based on the Dark Comics)and just seems angrier than ever(compared to the earlier 'lovable save the earth' series).
The other ones i like were the reptilian looking 'KingKongvsGodzilla' design-never seen that one again since..
The one used in G. vs The Thing was indeed a bit bulky(the mouth would quiver at times);and of course the last time you'd ever see him as a 'bad' guy in the 1st series..                                                                                                                                                   I also like the 'G.vs MechaG.;Terror of MechaG.(minus that 'scowl' he gave Titanosaurus upon their 1st meeting).
G.vs Gigan was ok enough in that one..
I agree with one reply that the Son of G. was sleepy eyed and i still think the one in G.vs the Sea monster was absolutely aimed at Gamera fans(take a good look at the condor attack scenes and compare). BRING ON GXG!!!
