What's with the board here lately?

Posts by key members have been few and far between these days.
Sure, there have been threads but many of them have been somewhat, uh, lackluster.
(my opinion of course)
Just the usual fare of us talking about this movie or that movie and people posting laundry lists of hundreds of films most people have never heard of.
I'm not saying that's bad or anything but it can get quite boring sometimes.

Gone are the days when we had 80-100+ guests.

I haven't seen the guest list above 25-30 people in over a month and I make sure to check this board several times a day.
How did that happen?
Where did everybody go?

Maybe I need to start getting crazy again and posting weird off-topics.

Are people just not visiting this site like they used to?
Were those all bots that were in the guest list?

There's gotta be a reason why.

What do you think?

Ash,

The same thing happens here every year around this time.  It's summer.  People are going outside more and taking vacations and such.  It'll pick back up during the fall; it always does.

I don't know Skaboi...
I've been a regular here for 6 years now and I've never seen a "drought" like this...even during the summertime.

The board is officially in a serious recession.

The Burgomaster

Personally, I have been really busy at work and my movie watching has greatly diminished.  I have probably only watched an average of 3 - 5 movies per week for the past month or so.  Damn . . . I used to watch that many on a weekend night!

It's a movie board; what do you expect folks to post about?  I like posting about movies I've watched recently to see what others thought of them, or to get ideas on what else to watch.

Who cares?  Andrew has stated on numerous occasions that this site gets like 300,000 page views per month.  That's some serious traffic.  Conventional wisdom states that when people have something to say, they post.  Otherwise, they just read.

Also, the guest list you are looking at is not accurate.  It's a software toy that is part of the bbs software.

Please, PLEASE, P-L-E-A-S-E don't.  If you have something you want to discuss...fine.  But Ash, it is not your 'job' to insure high post counts for this web site (that's MY opinion).  If you post a lot of nonsense, just to spark a flamefest of sorts, it brings the quality of the site down (also my opinion).

Also, why make Andrew 'pay' to store nonsense information?  All these posts take of room on a disk.  What's the point of filling up disk space with nonsense just to create noise on an otherwise informative, interesting and fun web site?

That some of us have lives outside of Internet forums.  Like others said, I've been very busy lately and have still tried to find some time to post on occasion.  This is one of my favorite sites, but I really don't care that much if it is not that busy for a couple of days.

Jeez ulthar!
The 'ol heiny hairs are wound just a little too tight there aren't they?

We're all here to entertain ourselves.
No offense but dude...your version is booring.
Maybe that's why lots of people left.

BeyondTheGrave

Well recently I have nothing to really say. I still watch movies thanks to Netflix but most of the time everyone has already seen them and they have been talked about. But I'm still here :)

It gets quiet at times.  There usually is something of a lull in the summer.

Still, the site usually has 350,000 visitors or so every month and serves 900,000 or more pages.  The lull started last month, taking us down to just under 300,000 and 825,000 pages.  Not exactly a bad thing if people are getting outside and enjoying themselves.  Bad movies are always a good thing for late nights or when caught inside by a snowstorm.

Well................I've been trying to get back into my movie rythymn since September 2005 with my Mom going through a long illness and passing away recently, remodeling our old home, buying a new home, then selling our old home, getting my daughter ready for College, my daughters recent graduation from High School, planning and going on a vacation, building a new website, and trying to get to the fitness center in between everything.

There is something about listing movie titles that is Iconoclastic within my view of things. Each movie title listed brings a certain ambiance all it's own. So with a simply list of a movie title you experience the essense of that movie again and bring into being the realms of those movies that have yet to be viewed. We only have an idea of what the unviewed movie contains and it also brings a kind of experience with it upon simply pondering it's potential unknown qualities.

My useless opinion:
More Vermin!!
Out of all the posters here, Vermin has -- I think -- come up with the funniest remarks and coolest observations, and that, for me at least, inspired me to do lots of posting.
But, yeah, I do get sort of sad when I do something like the post for a local movie that got a huge spread in the most recent FANGORIA -- "Subject Two" -- hoping to spark something going about local films made, indie horror, or the like, and get very few responses.
But, realistically, ANY thing that you're part of, be it a community theatre company or whatever, will have ups and downs, cycles and lulls in the cycles.
So, yeah, I'd tend to agree with ASH that the liveliness quotent is a bit shaky at the moment --
Could someone send a flame to Vermin & make him post something really snarky?
And, oh, don't agree with the "growing up" thing so much -- I mean, some of us are 50 years old, for goodness' sake --

I have no idea what this means.

Number of responses is not an indicator of the interest factor of a post; for example, I read a LOT of threads to which I do not respond.  I recall the thread you mention, and did not respond to it, though I found it an interesting comment.

Just my $0.02.

Hey ulthar, I was just messin' with you.

Nobody more than I wants to see this board lively and with good topics.
It just seems stagnant lately.

Not that I added anything particularly stimulating usually anyway, but I know I've been a bit absent lately what with starting full time work [which meant not as many late night sporadic viewings of crappy movies to talk about].  So time has become a bit more of an issue for me.

But that being said I have some fun plans in the works which somehow relate back to here so I'll post updates if they actually get off the ground.
