You guys forgot a real obvious one:
BIG ASSED BOXES! Them big boxes are always the most promising.
Another one would be a real crude painting / illustration on the front that has nothing to do with the movie blurb on back.
Also if there's a plain old still from the movie that isn't touched up on the cover, grab that summb***h.
And leave George Kennedy alone! He was in Just Before Dawn, fer crissakes!

Rev. Darkstar

Yeah, but he's also in Death Ship and that stinks.

George Kennedy has always been one of my favorites, this Academy Award winning actor is one of the best, and every time I find a Horror film with him, I always add it to my collection right away.

Some of my favorite George Kennedy Horror films are:

"Just Before Dawn"---A terrific 80's Slasher film with a good performance from the always great George Kennedy.

"Uninvited"---Sure, it's a low budget film directed by Greydon Clark about a killer cat let loose on a ship, but check out that great cast! George Kennedy, Clu Gulager, and Alex Cord are terrific and are always alot of fun to watch. You gotta love it when right after Alex and George find out their friend went overboard, Kennedy matter of factly says "Well, he's shark bait now!" and just decides to go on with business as usual.

"Nightmare At Noon"---George Kennedy is great as the town sheriff, who uncovers a plot much like that in George A. Romero's "The Crazies".

The list goes on and on, but for me the presence of the great George Kennedy makes a bad film alot of fun to watch and own.

Now I'm gonna have to find "Death Ship", I'll search for it on my next video hunt, next weekend.

So, you don't like "Death Ship", but admit it, you really do like George Kennedy, right? I mean, c'mon, George is Great, he starred in all four of the "Airport" movies, and his performance in "The Concorde: Airport '79" is one of the best.

Rev. Darkstar

"I spent about thirty minutes washing my mouth out after watching this crap. It made me feel cheap and used"

Andrew's words not mine...

I admit he was good in Thunderbolt and Lightfoot .

Gerry

And don't forget his memorable appearance (hehe) in http://www.scifilm.org/reviews/archer.html">"The Archer: Fugitive from the Empire".

I love those videos with the paintings on the front.  Some of them are so bad.  A really bad action movie usually has a scene where the girl is like "you can't keep it all inside, you have to open up to someone".  I read this interview with Sean Penn where he talks about how he got like 10 action scripts and they all had that scene on more or less the same page in the script and he thought he was on candid camera or something
