I was reading the review on the main site for Return of the Living Dead. I was wanting to get this on DVD but when I scrolled down to the bottom of the page I read in my horror, that the movie is out of print! What gives?! Does anyone know why this great 80s flick is no longer being sold and when and if it will ever be released on DVD?

Dosen´t neccesary mean that they don´t print it anymore. Could just as well be
temporary.

Rev. Darkstar

It's out on DVD on the Tartan lable in the UK.

I find this absolutely fascinating.  It's sort of like find out "Evil Dead" is out of print.  One would thing that, with its following, "Return of the Living Dead" would be a constant money-maker, and always be in stock.  (Amazon.com does list it as VHS, but in limited quantities)

Fangoria.com says RotLD will be released by MGM in DVD form sometime this year.  Be patient, and stay away from strange canisters...

This is only good news if you’re in region 2 or you have a non-specific DVD player.  (I think.  I still figuring out the DVD/region thing.)

Rev. Darkstar

All Tartan DVDs are Region 0 the only thing you have to get by is that there encoded in PAL.

I'm sure theres a few DVD suppliers in the US/Canada that import region 2, DVDBoxoffice springs to mind.

MGM announced they will release ROTLD sometime this year on DVD. IT'll probably be bare-bones, of course, but it's still a kick-ass flick.

Thanks for the heads up guys. I'll be sure to pick it up when it comes out.

Rev. Darkstar

I've just checked the website where I buy most of my DVDs, ROTLD isn't out until March on the Tartan lable.

Tartan are one of the best DVD producers in the UK, they did a great job with Battle Royale and the Ring series with new subs and enhanced picture.

Better get saving up now ;-)

I doubt the MGM dvd of ROTLD will be bare bones because of how much support this film is getting concerning extras. I mean on killer klowns from outer space MGM came through.I heard ROTLD will come out probably next summer so avoid that region 2 dvd and just wait it out like I have for about 5 years.

ROTLD has been out of print since 1997. The original hemdale/hbo video was the first to be released and then came a version from 1991 with new music in parts (Suicide's car scene etc.) I've never seen this version just heard things about it. The reason why it went out of print concerns rights issues between parties that I don't even want to get into.

i just bought my copy released by hbo with the poster art on the front cover for 25 bucks on ebay. it's better than some cheesy modernized cover with a collage of pics from the movie. sometimes the fact that a tape is old adds to the experience

Yeah, I'm pretty sure I heard they're going the "Killer Klowns" route with this one. I can't wait until it comes out-- I've never seen it, but it looks great. Plus, no movie that includes the phrase "rabid weasels" can be all bad.
