Aren't all pirates pretty much the same?  Couldn't just about anyone who was ever involved in a pirate movie try to sue Disney over similarities?  Hmmmmmm . . . .

Pirates of the Caribbean was a model kit series (by Revell,I think) during the 70's,which featured Skeletons dressed up as pirates (much like the undead pirates in the film.) Coincidence? Maybe. But there are not to many things that HAVE'NT been thought up or done ,in some type of media that doesn't resemble something else. Sounds iffy to me...like the killer puppets is an old hat idea as well.C"mon,now...

RC:

I had one of those pirate models.  They were cool because ecah one had a button on it somewhere and if you pressed the button, the pirate moved.  I think mine had a sword in his hand and it would come crashing down on a traesure chest or something when you pressed the button.

The obvious reason this is a total fake:
Why the hell would he post his message here, on Badmovies.org?
What, we got legal people here?  We got Industry people here?
This Disney's favorite hangout, or what?
Folks, I'm the only "industry" person who posts here regularly.  T'ain't nobody of any consequence give a rat's behind who reads what on this board.
And dat why we fun!

I have no idea what this means.

He was posting here to gather support.  Likely he put up posts on as many movie related websites as he could locate, trying to further his lawsuit.  If he is correct, more power to him.  If he's trying to get money for something he didn't do, I hope he rots....

I'd love to get a look at his 'original design concepts'

You mean we're just a buncha losers, that nobody cares, that we 're like a dog chasing his own tail? That none of this means nothing? I...I might cry...(sob)...

Ah, but can they PROVE you were born after... oh, wait, of course they can. HAH! Stupid Lawyer wins again!

I don't know if what the guy is saying is true or not, but I just want it to be true. I'm no fan of Disney by any stretch.

Er... just one question the original Pirates has been out for, gosh, I dunno, about two years now, why are you waiting till NOW to bring this suit about?  Did you somehow miss all the advertisements when the first film came out?

Check the dates on the OP.  It's an old thread that got resurrected for some reason.  :)

Thanks ulthar...
I was wondering when someone was going to point out that this thread was written in Febuary of 2004.
(it was the very first thing I noticed)

Well, that answers that question. Either the case was settled out of court, or it was thrown out of court for one reason or the other. But, what I'm waiting for, is someone suing over a film that flopped.

Seven years on MacGyver and you cannot figure this out? We got belt buckles, shoe laces, and a piece of gum. Build a nuclear reactor for crying out loud.  You used to be MacGyver, MacGadget, MacGimmick, and now you are now 'Mr. MacUseless'.

Shadowphile

The fact remains he filed the suit this month, to coincide with the release of the sequel.

Thanks, JT. That's the thing about the law. Just when you thought you've seen everything. Something new pops up.
