AMC TV Monsterfest lineup

A good solid lineup of classics, again any of my personal favorites are on at 2 AM. At least they left the "I knowqwhat you did..." and "Scream" series out this year.

The two that I haven't seen are THE BEAST MUST DIE and THE UNDYING MONSTER. Would like to see both of them, but they will probably put them on after midnight.

It's still a good line up for repeat viewings.

Hey, haven't seen The Devil's Rain on TV for years, but I recently picked it up at Suncoast Video. Not too shabby a line-up, this time around.

They left out Phantasm, Island of Terror, House of Wax, Return of Count Yorga, Willard, Magic, and Doctor Terror's House of Horrors! (At least I wanted them) /:(

Speaking of, what would be your dream Monsterfest lineup knowing the kind of films AMC shows?

First off, kudos to AMC for doing it right this year. It's still my favorite place to see Rodan and Frankenstein Conquers the World.

Second, Briggs Inc. reminded me of something- Dr. Terror's House of Horrors is a really fun B movie to watch- especially at this time of year. I really wish it had gotten the MST3K treatment. The "voodoo" sketch alone is MST gold.

Heh, I just watched Nosferatu this past Saturday. My disc came with two different soundtracks, one was based on the original score, the other was a jazz trio's version. I started off with the jazz trio's version, but it really did not work with the movie. Something about a silent movie and free form post WWII jazz just don't mix.

Nosferatu is one of the few old movies I've seen that's been redone very well- considering the state of the materials of the time. Lost Horizion and Rear Window are the only other examples I know of.

I was surprised how close Nosferatu was to the Dracula story. Anyone see SHADOW OF THE VAMPIRE, I thought that was a fun spin on the story. But I dig John Malkovitch.

Alfred Hitchcocks REAR WINDOW is good.

LOST HORIZON (1937) is one of my favorites and was once a lost film. When watching any available version you will see how parts of the film are gone and only the audio remains and for this they give you pictures while the audio is playing. Also scenes from this film are borrowed in later films like CONAN THE BARBARIAN. Part of this Frank Capra film was shot in Palm Springs, CA when the woman is on the horse above the waterfalls.

I've seen that version, it was really interesting.Up unil then, I wasn't impressed with Capra's work. I said Rear Window, but I actually meant Vertigo. I recently saw an old cassette tape version and compared with a newer release. They really did a good job redoing the sound FX.

Oh, yes, I've seen "Shadow of the Vampire", and the Nosferatu of Werner Herzog as well --
Just a great creation of Cinema -- gives one hope that "shadow plays" really are Art after all --

That sounds really interesting!

Anyways, I'm a big fan of Shadow of a Vampire. I really enjoyed how it used a piece of film history and created a very well oiled mythology around it [the idea that the actor who played Nosferatu in the original was really a vampire]

A friend of mine and I would wander around shouting "Iris Out! and Iris IN'' for a good while after we first saw it! Fun stuff...
