Jovovich could be a knife collection away from becoming the next Angelina Jolie.

It's a terrifying idea, that your friends and loved ones come back from the dead and want to eat you alive,'' says director Anderson. Tell us about it! Such zombie zaniness is at the heart of this adaptation of the best-selling videogame series. While ''Night of the Living Dead'''s George Romero was once attached, Anderson possesses solid credentials (he also directed the arcade-inspired ''Mortal Kombat''). His $40 million vision? Jovovich leads a hit squad into an underground lab where a zombie virus is on the loose. Horror fans should anticipate '' a couple of fantastic decapitations,'' says Anderson, as well as ''undead Dobermans with some flesh hanging off of them.''

Meanwhile, expect ghoulish drooling over Jovovich, who describes her character as a ''hot chick in a miniskirt.'' But stalkers beware: ''I've gotten a bad habit of shooting guns now,'' she says. ''Indoor shooting range, of course. I really love guns.'' Finally, a film that freaks and geeks and NRA members can enjoy.

I've read the original Romero script over at www.scriptcrawler.com . Not too bad, but not GREAT. From all accounts, it looks like this movie will be bad, but hey, it's a theatrical zombie flick. I'm happy with it. >= )

Yeah, that news clip is taken straight from Entertaiment Weekly.  I think it's funny that Paul Anderson has credentials for directing MORTAL KOMBAT, but Romero has none for directing NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD.

I also think it's funny that a game series that takes so much inspiration from bad movies is now being made into a bad movie itself.

Anyway, I think the movie itself doesn't look that bad.  I had no hopes when I heard about it, but the previews don't seem THAT stupid.  Problem is, there's no reason for anybody to watch it.  If you like the games, play them.  Ultimately, the movie is disposable cinema, just killing time in the theater.  (If you run up and slash the movie in the knees until it falls down you'll conserve ammo.)

Just for the record, I'm a huge Resident Evil fan.  I bought a Gamecube due in no small part to the fact that it's the only system future RE installments are going to appear on.

You got your Matrix in my Resident Evil!  You got your Resident Evil in my Matrix!  Sorry, but two great tastes that will probably not taste great together.
