Looking for some suggestions for horror films with creatures as the villains, been itching for a new one.  Standard zombies and vampires don't count.  Also, preferably modern, as in past 25-30 years.  Obscure stuff is fine.

Some of the ones I've liked in the past include Feast, Jaws, Deep Rising, The Howling, and Tremors.

Any help is appreciated.  Thanks.

Give the movie " Phantoms" A try.... Highly underated !!! :hot:
And when he shall die
Take him and cut him into little stars,
And he will make the face of heaven so fine
That all the world will be in love with night,
And pay no worship to the garish sun.

Critters, Alligator, Piranhas, and Piranhas 2: the Spawning are a few that come to mind...

There's loads of 'em out there. Here's a few that pop into my head ASAP:

Crocodile
Crocodile 2: Death Swamp
Anaconda
Python
Boa Vs Python
Alien Lockdown
Frankenfish

Like I said, loads of 'em.

With the exception of Alien Lockdown (which I'll check out once I get around to signing up for netflix), I've seen all the films listed so far.  Thanks for the suggestions though, if there are any more I'd be glad to hear em!

Pretty much most the movies that Sci-Fi Channel runs on the weekend would fit like Snakehead Terror

Probably seen Frogs already.

There's the Nest about killer roaches.

EVIL SPAWN is great. If you want to see a woman turn into a killing giant bug monster.VERY low budget, but lotsa fun.
RETURN of the ALIENS DEADLY SPAWN is very low budget, gory as hell, and GREAT!
I enjoyed the recent SLITHIS alot...very gruesome and funny too!
If youv'e never seen BASKET CASE-you really should! It has a very deformed, ugly little monstrosity living in a basket...and is a bloody mess of a movie! And I mean that in a good way.

More obscure, more obscure - let me give a try:

The Boogens - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0082094/
Strange monsters in a mine.

The Ressurrected - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0105242/
Based on the Lovecraft mythos.  I plan on reviewing this soon.

The Kindred - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0091343/
Monster hiding in the house movie.  Interesting creature, plus look at the little guys hop!

The Dark - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0109551/
Huge killer gopher under  a graveyard.  Look for Neve Campbell's awful acting as a deputy.

Project Metalbeast - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0114193/
Werewolf with metal hair.

Without Warning - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0081764/
Alien monster comes to earth and throws flesh-eating frisbees.

Hopefully, you have not seen all of these.  I love monster movies, but finding one that another fan of them has not seen can be difficult.

There is also "The Dark" (1979) stars William Devane and Cathy Lee Crosby, about an alien criminal who likes to tear off people's heads, sort of an intergalactic serial killer.

Edit to add:
QuotePretty much most the movies that Sci-Fi Channel runs on the weekend would fit like Snakehead Terror.

There's the Nest about killer roaches.

I saw some of the Snakehead Terror.  The last half, actually.  Fairly entertaining.  I gave it to my brother-in-law because he used to keep pet snakeheads as a child.  Frogs I've seen about half of, and the Nest about 20 minutes (is that the one where the roaches alter into new forms, or the other one?  I get them mixed up).  Kinda weird, there are a LOT of films I saw part of back in the days when Cinemax and The Movie Channel still showed films like that.  I often got booted into bed after seeing just part of the film.

Return of the Aliens Deadly Spawn I've seen and quite enjoyed.  I've seriously considered buying the special edition DVD which came out - it's pretty amazing to me it got a release at all after being out of print so long.

I've seen Slither and all 3 Basket Case films (all of which are worth watching, actually).

Evil Spawn sounds amusing..  I've seen The Alien Within (the alternate, much different version of Evil Spawn) on store shelves, but haven't checked it out.

Seen that one.  Not too bad, actually.

Sounds good.  I'll check it out.

I rented this one a long time ago.  Remember my dad walking in on me watching it, and being flabbergasted that Rod Steiger was in it.  Maybe it's best that he isn't around to see some of his more recently released films!

QuoteThe Dark - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0109551/
Huge killer gopher under  a graveyard.  Look for Neve Campbell's awful acting as a deputy.

The killer gopher isn't really bad though, actually.  Saw this on late night cable, it is enjoyable.  Favorite part is when the creature opens a coffin containing a still living main character (it eats corpses in the graveyard) and they both screen in shock.

QuoteProject Metalbeast - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0114193/
Werewolf with metal hair.

Saw the last half hour of this on late night Cinemax many years ago.  I've been meaning to get the whole movie, as I'm a big werewolf fan (too bad most werewolf films are so awful, eh?)

QuoteWithout Warning - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0081764/
Alien monster comes to earth and throws flesh-eating frisbees.s

Wow.  Martin Landau, Jack Palance, AND a 24-year old David Caruso in a film that is the likely origin film of Predator?  How could I NOT want to see that!?  Too bad it is out of print, sounds like it deserves better.  I'll definetly check it out.

The hard part isn't finding one that a fan hasn't seen; it's finding one which a fan hasn't seen and isn't AWFUL.

Thanks for the suggestions, more are appreciated but I think these will do for the moment.  Think I'm gonna have to hit eBay for these though, as they're sorta out of print.

Spawn Of The Slithis!

Hah!  I had forgotten about that part, but your mention of it made the brain cell flash and I remember that being a well-done and amusing twist too.

I have a few others to try.

How about "Caltiki" - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0052667/
In some ways, a copy of "The Blob."  There is a fairly shocking scene of one person being eaten.

"Don't Be Afraid of the Dark" - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0069992/
Woman targeted by tiny demons.

"The Intruder Within" - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0082565/
"Alien" on an oil platform.

"Queen of Blood" - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0060877/
Female (alien) survivor starts munching the crew of a spaceship.

These are older, but I would recommend them to a fan of monster movies.
