i saw this movie in the early 90's.  as far as i remember, it was about a man who lived with his son (possibly younger brother) in a huge house.  the man goes on a date with the guardian angel of this house and while they're gone, demons/monsters attack the house and the boy.  the one scene i remember well is of the boy growing an eye in the middle of his palm and then stabbing it out with a shard of glass.

i thought the title of the movie was "date with an angel" but i looked that up on imdb and am not so sure that is it, because it appears to be more of a romantic comedy and what i saw was a horror flick.

any help would be much appreciated.

I believe that you are looking for the movie "The Gate."  At least, I seem to remember the kid growing an eyeball out of his hand.  I think that I have a copy of this movie in my collection, so I can check this evening.

Do you remember that most of the demons were little things, about 10 inches tall?  At the end, a huge one is seen and the boy defeats them by launching a model rocket.

Can anyone else confirm?

It sounds like these are two films that are mixed up.

First of all, the scene with the kid and the eyeball in the palm and stabbing it with glass is without a doubt The Gate.  If I'm not mistaken it's a scene that happens towards the end of the film.

The other, about the guy going on a date with an angel does sound very much like Date With An Angel.  It's a late 80s chick flick shot here in NC.

Do you remember anything about the angel being in a pool?  If I'm not mistaken that's how the main character of Date With An Angel finds the Angel.

A bald man named Savalas visited me last night in a dream.  I think it was a Telly vision.

thanks for the help.  i'll have to rent those two movies and see, but you're probably right.

Question: did you post on another site as Popcorn Guy? If not, there might be someone looking for the same movie you are. He mentions a few different details than you did, maybe it might help jog your memory:

I'd say that it was probably another poster.  That question was from nearly a year ago.  I went ahead and posted to it, just in case the person who had been searching gets email notification of replies.
