Collection addictions!

I have a mania for collecting old "monster movie" mags from the 60's and 70's-(ie.Famous Monsters,Castle of Frankenstien, Horror Monsters ,well you get the picture...),and Lugosi related items. My wife is an antique collector,and I don't mind tagging along,cuz I run into old Hot Wheels(another obsession),on her shop forays.Question: Do you have any(beyond Video and DVD) collecting addictions?

I still collect comics. Marvel mostly. As well as comic Statues and Busts. Slowed down with that though because its a very expansive hobby.

I guess Music could count as a collecting addiction. Spend alot of money buying CDs. Mostly Punk/Hardcore but I'm pretty opened minded about different types of music.

I get into alotta old school punk myself...in fact myspace exists only to post punk rock videos...(Bad Brains are the current run...)

I used to collect comics at an alarming rate, but gave up them all up cold turkey due to the mounting cost. I knew I would never be able to restrict myself to a few favorite titles and would always want to add more to each week's purchase, so I just gave them all up. To this day I find it very, very hard to walk into a comic shop and not feel the desire to drop hundreds.

Right how I collect action figures, the more monstrous, the better. A large portion or them are Spawn stuff or other McFarlane toys products, but I only buy the ones I want and not entire series. I also collect spaceships. Again, lots of stuff from Star Trek and Star Wars, but there are lots of other things in there as well, like the Yamato/Argo from Starblazers.

Another thing I spend too much on is books - new paperbacks from favorite authors. I don't read as much as I once did, so I have hundreds of books that I have not read, but I continue to keep up with all my favorite writers and series.

The wife and I also collect swords and fancy knives. There are few places in the house where a hideously sharp weapon is not just a few feet away at any given time.

I  trade for whatever classic pro wrestling footage I can find (preferably pre-1990s). I love all cult movies including martial arts, blaxploitation, JD, the whole gamut of the Drive-In circuit years back. I have a small collection of action figures but I'm not into that big-time (still, I'm often mighty tempted by them when I see them on toy store shelves). Used to collect loads of comics but like Shadowfyre, I just had to give them up or go bankrupt.  Currently I have hundreds of comic books and pro wrestling magazines taking up way too much space but shipping from Newfoundland just doesn't make trading them away in small numbers desirable.  I have a lot of CDs too but mostly it's filled with Greatest Hits compilations, which I seem to have a thing for collecting as well.

I collect really bad monster and sci-fi movies and TV shows, any thing I can get my hands on at a reasonable (cheap) price, I am always looking as they turn up in the strangest places. My other addiction, which I share with my wife is collecting Gamecube games, usually buy them used as that is the least expensive way to go but occasionally we get them new if they're ones we're familiar with, this is getting to be an expensive hobby, but a lot of fun.

I collect anything Godzilla related that I can get my hands on, I've gotten back into comic collecting (thanks to the Army of Darkness comics from Dynamite Entertainment), I collect Fangoria and G-Fan magazines and.... dust.

I have a thing for anything Ghost in the Shell or War of the Worlds.

Lately I've been getting into books about movies, though as an ex cinema studies student I suppose that makes sense [just recently I've been buying them instead of borrowing]

On top of that I do have a few figurines, most of which grace my car dashboard.  I've been meaning to post a list with pictures, but have been housesitting all week.

On top of that I have a collection of Ian Fleming James Bond novels.  A trip I made when I was about 12 resulted in my parents taking us to antique shops all round the country, and as a result I spent a lot of time trawling through the book sections picking up old Spiderman comics that looked interesting, and James Bond novels.  I have doubled up on a few of the Bond books as well, ranging from about 3 versions of Live and Let Die, to hardcover/paperback versions.

I also buy a lot of CDs when I probably shouldn't, such as anything by UNKLE or The Future Sound of London [and their affiliated little projects].

Geez....back in the 70's, when I was a teen, I had a HUGE collection of comic books. ANYTHING with  art by Jack Kirby was a must have. The Spirit mags,CREEPY mag,Captain America,Sgt.Fury and his Howling Commandos,Kid Colt,Rawhide Kid,Monsters on the Prowl, the Hulk,,Sub Mariener,Conan, Planet of the Apes(yes, Marvel had a comic mag based on the PotA series,) Swamp Thing(as long as Bernie Wrightston was doing the art.)The INVADERS was a cool, short lived series with Cap, Subby, and the original Human Torch fighting Nazi's in WW II. The Black Panther(art...KIRBY!),If it had art by Steve Ditko-I bought it. Also enjoyed the art of Neal Adams,Basil Wolverton, and my personal hero,Will Eisner. Also lke Joe(Sgt.Rock,Tarzan)Kubert,Mike(ManThing)Ploog,John (MAD<CRACKED)Severin,Chester(Dick Tracy)Gould,Frank Frazetta, Basil (Famous Monsters)Gogos,.....god I could go on forever....the only comics I cllect now are old Sgt Fuy comics I get offf Ebay, and old Captain America comics....from e-bay as well...Also LOVED old underground Freak Bros., Milk and Cheese("Dairy Products Gone Bad!") and HEAVY METAL mag...( almost had a job in the 80's drawing for Julie Simmons...got hooked on drugs and booze in NYC...got arrested for  public intoxication and possesion of weed,1985  on LI ).

When I was little, it was action figures.
Somewhere in my teens, I got into the habit of collect Mad Magazines, that lasted well into my late twenties. I still base my life by most of their teachings.

When I "came of legal age", I started collecting, ahem, "Vintage" Playboys. (Kinda' disturbing, now that I think about it.) Naturally, that hobby ended when I discovered the internet.

Outside of blank VHS tapes, close-out videos, $1 DVDs, Cd's & cassettes, the two habits that seem to have stood the test of time are my accumulation of cheap pocket knives & toy motorcycles.

Collected comic from elementary school until about 1994. Mostly Marvel, but had branched out to some DC and trying independents from time to time. The cost-to-enjoyment factor was a big part of why I stopped: the summer double issues, collectable covers, the pointless multi-title crossover storylines, spinoff series for anything with an "X" in the title or a mutant in it - and the decline in quality from stretching talent too thin- all just added. I remember getting fed up with the suckiness of Excalibur, just expected it to broaden out it own storytelling universe more if it was going to be that separate from the main Marvel X-Men titles.

Used to buy lots of Cd's, dabbling in and exploring all kinds of genres. Got burned out on too many dead alleys of stuff I thought I was "supposed" to like to feel hip or cool. Still like to hear the odd and unusual, but it's often older stuff which I'd have to buy online since you can't find it in the stores.

Still buy too many books, genre stuff and literature. Want whole collections of Pratchett, Patrick O'Brian, George MacDonald Fraser, etc. Again mostly older stuff as I'm less willing to spend money on new books by authors I may loathe, plus my reading rates vary so much: sometimes hung up on a book for a month or more, other times going through at least two a week. About to purge the house of stuff I hated, will never read again and don't want to hold onto, or know I will never read.

I collect old video format cameras and some old film format cameras. I have VHS cameras, s-vhs cameras, betas, 8mm, and even two pixelvision cameras ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pixelvision ) in addition to something called Polavison (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polavision), multiple 35mm still cameras, and an assortment of miniDV cameras for my more constant work. These old formats are difficult to work in because of their strange digitization process, oftentimes having to go through two or three steps to import the footage onto my computer to begin working on it in an easily replicable medium.

I've started collecting art. Mostly my friend's work, but I discern. I go to shows in the area and look at prices, but I seem to be attracted to the best work, which is of course the most expensive. If I had a good job I could afford these things. I have a teacher who can afford all the things I want. He's such a connoisseur and considering the amount of work he buys, it's like he is the patron of all of these people. His own photography is very good as well.

I also collect books, mainly looking for out of print books, books that were once banned or first editions or those editions with the best [insert foreign langue] to english translation.

I ditched my playstation magazine collection a long time ago and I recently said adios to a large portion of my b-movie vhs collection. In college, there isn't a lot of space to have stuff so whatever I do have I better use and use often.

At our house, we seem to mostly collect dust and Wal-Mart bags.

I do also have a fairly large collection of books (I got rid of most of them after grad school when I had to move, but I've replaced those and increased the collection since then). I have a fair number of cd's, though many people have more than I do. For some reason, I collect odd salt and pepper shakers, though I don't go out searching for them; I just buy them when I see them and they make me laugh (like one I have that is a really long dachshund with the salt section in the head and the pepper section in the rear. Okay, well, it's funny to me). I also have a horde of McDonald's Happy Meal toys (Star Wars and Animaniacs varieties), along with some trading cards (not from McDonald's) for Star Wars, Superman, The Wizard of Oz, and a few other movies/series. So mostly I'm just a junk collector.

I'm an avid collector of all things related to Quentin Tarantino films in any way.

I've got most (if not all) of the domestic Pulp Fiction posters, all of the Kill Bill posters (both volumes), all of the From Dusk Till Dawn posters (including an awesome Japanese one I just won off of Ebay today), all of the domestic posters for True Romance and most of the Reservoir Dogs ones as well.

There's still a lot of foreign ones that I need to get but the asking price on those is usually too much for me at the moment (until I get my tax refund at least!    )

I collected and still collect MAD Magazines, before they went to color and putting advertisements in them.  I felt that they sold their sole after that.  I got some prett old ones.
