Does Porno Count as B-Movies?

In all seriousness, this is something that I've been pondering for a while and would like to hear your opinions on.  First of all, don't anyone try and get all high and mighty on me, cause all of us are at least guilty of getting together with a couple buddies to watch it (many of us are guilty of more than that, but the less said the better).  The reason I'm wondering is because when it comes to acting, directing, plot, dialogue, editing, special effects, sound, and overall production values, NOTHING is worse than a porno flick.  In these respects they share a lot of common ground and they both serve a similar purpose: to stimulate.  The only difference is one offers up buckets of blood and violence while the other gives you buckets of HOT HOT SEX (haha, had to do it).  Of course we all know that plot, dialogue, etc. all come secondary (no pun intended) to the sex, and that's why there so funny because the stuff they come up with (once again no..., ah hell with it.  every possible pun intended) to show people screwing is most of the time outrageous.  In the wonderful land of Pornoworld some guy delivering pizza to the wrong house is more than enough reason to start screwing.  Just like in b-movies being chased by a crazed psychopathic killer is WAY MORE than enough reason to have sex.  I dunno, what's your opinion, can porno flicks be considered b-movies?

Hi,

Long time reader, first time poster.  I would have to say that porno doesn't count as B movies, more like double D movies.  (sorry, I just had to say that.)  Actually some of the better porno flicks do have plots, and at least as decent production values as, say Puppet Master I (and better than Redneck Zombies).  Still, there's something about them that just doesn't equate.  Maybe it's that in b-movies the killing & gore (& sex) are fake, while in porno the sex is real (just the boobs are fake).

Hummmm. While i've seen some in my misspent youth, like most of us,it's not something i do now, or would recomend. Long story, and you'd be bored. I have my reasons. As to the question.....while they do have some general characteristics in common, the specific nature and purpose of Porn is realy pretty simple(Minded). And, limeted in scope, by nature of its purpose. Sci-fi, fantasy, noir stylings can be used in it, as with all other types of flicks, but, haveing an easily identifyable...genre? I'd say, you have to put them in a catigory all their own. Also, the limetation of audience could be a factor. General audience releases have a broader range of "Imput sources"....Us who watch them......then the Paul Rubens in Miami crowd...so to speak. If you want to start a "P-notes", your welcome to it. The B masters thrive by way of the broad range of ...uh..."Fertiliser", that hollywood produces. In other words, thing realy grow! Well, thats my 2 cents worth. You?

I think some porn films can be considered B-Movie/Cult films. This would include films like Rinse Dream's "Cafe Flesh" and "Night Dream" (which features clowns and a great Wall of Voodoo song), Damiano's "Let My Puppets Come", etc etc.
I haven't had the, uhm, pleasure yet, but it seems like a lot of the adult films that get thrown into the b-film/cult category are the older ones, since experimenting with the film medium(as opposed to the sexual medium) was more popular and though still very low budget, there were usually some kind of effort since this was before the video wave.

Doesn't the profits from the porno industry yearly dwarf the Hollywood Grosses?

As long as the porno parodies a movie then it's all good in my book.  A couple of my favorites: Clockwork Orgy and Texas Dildo Masquerade

I say yes, in a way.  Of course there is a difference between watching Army of Darkness and Humpin' in da Hood, starring Debra Doorknockers.  But consider this, There are some movies that fall through the cracks.  Don't believe me, watch cinemax late night.

Rent Boardinghouse and you'll change your mind. This 'movie' was shot with a camcorder and had a budget of about $1.89. At one point, the star demonstrates his ability to move things with his mind. This is accomplished by someone off camera shaking a small table that a vase is sitting on, until it falls over. A typical high school play has better acting than this.

Is it just me, or , if given the opportunity, could Michael Douglas have been in the porno industry instead?  I just saw the director's cut of Basic Instince and all I can say is, DAMN!!!

seriously though.  alot of b movies were grindhouse/ exploitation things which is why the plots and actig are so bad.  Stuff like Dark Dreams and Caligula feature hardcore porn and are part of the whole bmovie thing.  Also, this is BAD movies, not B movies.org  not necassarily the same thing all the time.

The Old, the Fat and the Ugly. I swear I almost went blind from that one, and it wasn't from the ethanol I was drinking to knock myself out. Why I rented it I still have no idea...the look of pity/disgust/awe on the face of the clerk was hilarious.
I still wake in a cold sweat from the few moments of that film I could bear to watch.

I have to say that "Blood Hunger", "Death by Dialogue", "Curse of the Screaming Dead", & "Howling: New Moon Rising" are all worse than any Porn I may have had the pleasure of seeing. This includes crap fests like "Murphies Brown"!!

Given that what qualifies as a B movie is flexible. I'd say on a case by case basis porno can at times be considered a b-movie. Some of them have the same entertainment value interms of heckleability (?) and tongue in cheek (no pun intended) aspects. Caligula, Alice in Wonderland (a musical porno, be afraid... be very afraid), among other serve as good examples. As with all issues surrounding catagorization. It's a tool, not a law and rigidity in definition can be dangerous. If you think a porno qualifies as a b movie the it's a b movie. I don't think Porn as a whole does since there are lots of porn out there that has dispensed with plot, script and acting all together in favor of flat out bump and grind.

I haven't actually rented one of those but they look really disturbing.  I'm sure some people really get off on them which is pretty insane.  The store I go to has a collection of a couple thousand (!) pornos for rent plus alot of the x rated something weird re-issue stuff.  under the counter where you write the numbers for the thing there is a binder that YOU SHOULD NOT OPEN.  All the videos are in binders, but this one is a little different.  I opened it once out of ignorance I recall seeing some swastikas and poop.  It's litereally the binder from Hell!!!!
