Yep, MGM is releasing ROTLD on DVD come August 27th. It will have a new 16x9 widescreen transfer and a new Dolby digital mono sound mix. The extras include an audio commentary with Dan O'Bannon and production designer William Stout, a featurette with interviews, a stills gallery of artwork and sketches, and the original trailer. It will retail for $14.95.

Rumor has it that, if this one sells well, there will be a Special Edition (with director's cut) released next year.

DVD is my new best friend. Now if only supliment-loaded, quality transfers of Dawn and Day Of The Dead, Dead Alive and Zombi would be released my digital zombie flick library would be complete.

Wait.  If this one sells well they will sell another one with more stuff on it next year?  So the fans, who will be the largest buying segment, should buy this one and then next year buy the other?  And if they hold off buying this one to wait for the Special Edition, it might never materialize?

Good plan.
