I've been a fan of Jim Varney's Ernest character for as long as I can remember.  I really wish Hey, Vern, It's Ernest! would be released on DVD.

These movies don't exactly improve with age (they're definitely b-movies), but I still get a kick out of the first 4 of 'em.  I remember seeing Ernest Goes to Jail in the theater and it was just me, my brother, my mom, and a couple of our friends along with about 2 other people in the theater.  I also saw Ernest Rides Again with my family and the theater was equally vacant.

Ernest Rides Again was mostly crappy, and it's even more downhill from there.  The only one I've seen after it is Ernest Goes to Africa which wasn't funny at all.

I think my favorites are Ernest Goes to Camp and Ernest Saves Christmas.

Isn't being the best "Ernest" Movie like being the tallest midget?  :twirl:
He learned almost too late that man is a feeling creature... and because of it, the greatest in the universe........

Or like saying you're the smartest kid riding the short bus.

But Ernest movies are silly fun.  To me they're the logical movie product of men who grew up watching Three Stooges reruns, they have that same feel to them.

Ernest Save Christmas would have to rated the best, but I did like Ernest goes to Camp (using parachuting snapping turtles as weapons is priceless).

My favorite line from an Ernest movie has to be from Ernest Scared Stupid, " Have a bumper sandwich booger lips" .

Ernest's dog (Rimshot) seems to be the smartest character in the films.

And you thought Trek isn't cool.

Seriously, I thbink Dr Otto & the Riddle of the Gloom Beam oughta be in the mix

I only saw the first one (and at the theater no less). I never bothered with any others.

The FDA has been looking for a generic name for Viagra. After careful consideration by a team of government experts, it recently announced that it has settled on the generic name of Mycoxafloppin. Also considered were Mycoxafailin, Mydixadrupin, Mydixarizin, Dixafix, and of course, Ibepokin.

I was done with that Ernest character before he made the jump from commercials to movies. I later saw a few episodes of Varney's (very) short-lived Saturday morning live show and decided there was much more to Varney than Ernest. The show was a bit like Pee-Wee's Playhouse but actually much darker.

My sister once met Jim Varney out of character and was surprised that she thought he was an extremely handsome man!

I saw some movie where he had a nude scene (no, really -- he was nude, covered in flour, and talking about p***y) and the man was actually in damn good shape.  He wasn't exactly young by then, either.

My favorite Varney character is Dr. Otto, so the favorite movie would be Dr. Otto and the Gloom Beam, as well.  However, Scared Stupid is my favorite Earnest movie.

I added Dr. Otto.  I left it off initially because from what I understand they added a scene with Ernest for the home video version, but I guess that counts.

I haven't seen all of them, but I loved Scared Stupid.  I would follow that with Saves Christmas and Goes to Jail.

Ernest Goes to School was kinda funny, and was probably the last tolerable one.
