What would you do with such a catch? I would be torn between letting such a rare, cool creature go and hanging it on my wall!

It is really amazing these still exist. It makes you wonder what else is still swimming around down there...

Whatever they do, I hope they don't irradiate it for shipping purposes. That can have grave consequences. Likewise, they must make sure any live specimens don't get near any growth serums. We all know what happens then:teddyr:

The FDA has been looking for a generic name for Viagra. After careful consideration by a team of government experts, it recently announced that it has settled on the generic name of Mycoxafloppin. Also considered were Mycoxafailin, Mydixadrupin, Mydixarizin, Dixafix, and of course, Ibepokin.

I make a joke much like this in the coming review for "Godzilla:  King of the Monsters," but in reference to a trilobite.  It's amusing, but I wonder how much of history has gone into mankind's stomach.

Mr. DS

I've seen a show or two on this fish.  It is supposed to be a bit of a missing link between man and fish or something.  I think the fish actually has arms that lead to fins instead of just fins.  Either way, as already mentioned by others,  it would look nice on a wall, on a dinner plate, and my vote an aquarium.   Seriously though, it is a fascinating fish.

And if you must, DON'T LET THE DOG LICK IT!

He'll crave it, but don't let him.

Mmmmmm... I'm thinking boiled or steamed with drawn butter for trilobite.

Unfortunately you're right about history going down somebody's gullet. Even today if a thylacine wandered into a Tasmanian village it would likely wind up in a stew rather than a zoo.

I LOVE living fossils.  Fossil fossils are cool too, don't get me wrong.  But how awesome would it be to stumble upon a koolasuchus?  If you ask me, the world could use a few more predatory salamanders!

Suchus is Latin for crocodile, though the scientific community seems to use this root broadly when naming specimens.  Therefore, Koolasuchus translates to Kool's crocodile, so I've always assumed it was the Cretaceous mascot for Kool-brand cigarettes.  Let's just say that if I ran into a five-meter-long carnivorous amphibian, I'd wanna cigarette!

Well, that's not a very flattering shot, but they're really very pretty fish when they're not lying on the ground with their eyes exploded from decompression sickness and stuff.  They look sort of like the fish Henry Limpet turned into that time, only cobalt blue, with piranha teeth and fins that suggest arms and legs.  You'd need a helluva big aqaurium -- those little puppies get to be 6' long.
