I have seen the film in the meantime, and I found it a refreshing change from the usual glossy productions. Mind you, many times I wondered WTF was going on.
Same here.  I loved watching it, but I'm still in the dark about a lot of the plot.  I also bagged the sequel and it left me with just as many questions.  I will say this, though.  It's nice to look at.

It was a bit confusing to me on the first viewing too, but if you watch it closely a few times, it all makes sense.

Well, I'm hoping that reading the book will enlighten me.

I guess I watch to many weird art house and foreign films as I feel I kinda of got the story a little ways in to it, whereas I'll watch some mainstream American movies and set there and go WTF? Granted it was a little difficult to follow at first, coming from an American mindset of either no storyline or in your face story line, it was a little deeper and darker and really, really cool and I can't wait to see the next 2.

I've got the Region 1 DVD of this very interesting though flawed  flick.  I've read that the original Russian version is about 10 minutes longer and that Fox/Searchlight changed up the order of some scenes in the international version in addition to cutting some scenes in an attempt to make the movie more logical.

also, the sequel, Day Watch, has already been done/released elsewhere and I think that the 3rd film in the trilogy is being filmed here in America.

I just saw the FOX preview to "Day Watch" ... WHOA! WOW! Looks awesome!

It was on the new Pathfinder DVD and said "Day Watch" was coming soon to DVD.

Ok gonna watch Pathfinder now.

Cool beans! I've heard that Day Watch is supposed to be quite good.

Night Watch approaches being catastrophically awful.  It's one of the worst films I've seen recently (well, a friend of mine bought it and we watched it like 5 months ago), and keep in mind I rent a good deal of straight-to-video fodder.

All the characters are dull, the pacing is glacial, the action scenes (if you want to call them that) are poorly executed...  And the movie is just flat out boring.  It does have some decent visuals, and some of the acting is OK, and I think the concept is very good (I remember watching the Russian trailer a year or two ago and thinking it would be great)...  That's about the only praise I can give it.

I'd give it a 2/10, and I think I'm being generous.
