Ahhh the innocent 80s...

I don't know, maybe I'm reading too much into certain things as I scrape through my childhood memories of tv shows, commercials, and movies, but I can't help be amazed at all the crazy things they did in the 80s that seem... well.. a bit..."odd" by today's standards.

For instance, Thundercats...

You've got this manly cat dude who gains his power from a mystical that grows bigger the more he yields it.

He-Man, got a blond haired fellow who wears pink and white outfits, turns into a muscular guy in quasi bondage outfits by holding up a sword.

Commercial for inchworm, "Your kids will love riding up and down—and up and down—on Inchworm."

Then we got Transformers, the last incarnation of the cartoon features a group of robots (mainly vehicles and animals) who, when transforming into their vehicle mode, their heads would come off and transform into miniature robots.  They decided to call this tribe Head Masters.

And should I even get into the Smurfs?  A group of about 100 plus males living with only ONE female?

Again, maybe I'm over analyzing all of this, but still...

Thats the reason why when I review He-Man on my site I have the Fury Loincloth Award for the most homo-erotic moment of the show.

Ahhh the innocent 80s, when we didn't have to worry about ridiculous pseudo-freaud innuendo like this :bouncegiggle:

I don't think I'll ever be able to watch my He-man cartoons again.

yeah Flegekarp, He-Man is a bit questionable.  Prince Adam has a secret which he keeps from his parents and the rest of the world and like BTM mentioned, he whips out his "sword" and transforms to an interesting individual.

He-Man was always questionable.  Skeletor rocked though.

Well, for the record, I not the first to point out any of this stuff, so don't blame me...

On one of those "I Love the 80's" weekends that VH1 does from time to time, they addressed the fact that He-Man was the most homo-erotic cartoon of the 80's.

They showed a clip of Beast Man (I think that's his name) coming up from behind He-Man and giving him a bear hug. They kept repeating the clip. It was too funny.

Oh believe me you're not the first to point it out.  The question of He-Man's sexuality is an ancient mystery only Castle Grayskull knows.

I love the '80s rocks.  But I remember them doing that.

I'm not sure if Robot Chicken touched on it or not yet.  I'd love to see what they do.

That an innocent show like Family Ties could go so retro in tone, back to Brady Bunch days, and still be a hit says a lot about the '80s.

One thing about the 80s: there used to be a thing called Skinheads. They were guys who...shaved their heads. well, a lot of people do that nowadays thus skinheads have lost their exotic allure. They had tattoos too and a lot of people have those now too.

If you walked into a pizza place in the 80's and saw someone with a shaved head and tattoos you'd think you were someplace crazy. Now, that person is probably someones Dad who watches UFC

ralfy

They made a new version of Thundercats, and some say it got cancelled:
