Figured I'd open this one up to discusion as well.  For me, hands down goes to Mike Tyson's Punch-Out.  Followed closely by Casino Kid & Double Dribble

Mine would have to be the original Legend of Zelda with Metroid a very close runner up.

The FDA has been looking for a generic name for Viagra. After careful consideration by a team of government experts, it recently announced that it has settled on the generic name of Mycoxafloppin. Also considered were Mycoxafailin, Mydixadrupin, Mydixarizin, Dixafix, and of course, Ibepokin.

There's quite a few:

BattleToads
Blades of Steel
Super Mario Bros. 3
Back To The Future

all time favorite though:

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Arcade Game  Granted, based off the arcade version, but still.

I liked the first Final Fantasy that was released here a lot. I think that was actually 3 in the series.

The other that I remember was "Genghis Khan."   It was an empire-building game and it would drive you crazy, but I liked it.

Though there have been a lot for me too, I think my all time favorite NES game (i.e. the one that I spent the most time of my NES life playing) would have to be the first Dragon Warrior. Once they started adding additional party members in the second and third installment, I'd pretty much forfeited whatever remained of my childhood so I could continue playing them... I also loved the fact that you could fight your way through the whole game, only to join the forces of evil and end your game when the Dragon Lord offers you a place by his side when he rules the world. Heh heh.

Oh yeah, also loved the crap out of Bionic Commando. I remember it causing a bit of controversy when it first came out, because the original pressings of the game featuring the villain saying "Damn it!" as his Hitler shaped head explodes. Apparently in the original Japanese version of the game you were actually fighting the Nazis and the ressurected fuhrer himself instead of a militant group called BADD and their evil leader Master D...

I forgot an all time favorite of mine, Contra.  My neighbor and I would waste hours playing it, beating the game and playing it again.

Snake Rattle n Roll was one game I spent a lot of time on.

D-Man

My all time favorite is Mega Man 2.  Tons of replay value (I still play it to this day) and probably some of the best in-game music ever made for an NES game.

Man, I love me some Punch-out!   I remember when it first came out it was called Mike Tyson's Punchout, but then Tyson went all mental and Nintendo dropped his deal and replaced him with Mr. Dream (no change in graphics, just the name).

I can't recall his name, but I only got past the next to the last guy once or twice.

And you thought Trek isn't cool.

I think the furthest I ever made it in Punch Out was the second time you box Soda Popinski... I think he was the last fight before Tyson. I used the cheat code that everybody knew to make it to Tyson himself and never stood a chance.  :bluesad:

Gosh, pick just ONE?  Not sure I can..

Some of my favs, Super Mario 3 spent HOURS ON that game.

Castlevania 3, lots of things I REALLY like about this game you don't see in a lot of games at the time, it actually had multiple paths, three different guys who could team up with (each with a different ending), not to mention kickass graphics and music.

For the record, I liked the ending with Sypha the best (karma to anyone who actually remembers it.)

Gosh, what else?  Of course, the classic, Zelda, Mega Man 2, Contra, etc.

And, even though it was WAY different than the first on, I liked Super Marion Bros 2.  To me, there was something fun about picking up your enemies, walking over to a waterfall and then tossing them, saying, "BYE!" Or tossing one enemy into another going, "Here's you mate!"  (Yes, I actually said that while playing.)

Soda was before the Don Flamenco rematch which was followed by I believe The Sandman, The Super Macho Man and then Tyson.  Tyson had a pattern in which you really needed to avoid the first minute thirty.  After you got through that you had to dodge and push up with the punch button to land anything.  Thats my inner-nerdiness talking.   :teddyr:

I have this game and have enjoyed it in the past.  I also like the idea of choosing your own path in the game and not to mention allies.

Anyone here play Ninja Gaiden.  Still til this day the most frustrating game I've ever played.  I beat it once and that was it.

Okay, then I definitely made it to the Sandman, because I remember him whooping my ass, whereas Super Macho Man I remember in name only. Thanks Dark, you creepy berries and cream loving imp!  :teddyr:
