Transmorphers (2007)

 So has anyone else seen this giant hunk of cheese yet??

An obvious attempt to cash in on the success of Transformers. I went into this hoping for a goofy but enjoyable film about bad actors fighting giant robots. What I got was even worse than I feared.

Let me list a few of the good points of this movie.

    * Giant Robots
    * Guns
    * Explosions
    * Brain Scans
    * Base Bot
    * Semi-Attractive Women
    * Lesbians


There was some minor transforming capabilities of the bots. The air units could transform from plane-looking things to lens-faced bots. There were also ground units that did a bit of transforming to deploy weapons and one tank-bot. The acting varied between marginally passable to downright abysmal. The sound techs need to learn something about synchronization, half the time it looked like a bad kung-fu flick and other times you could tell they forgot to loop that bit of dialog. There were also some really bad and even some missing special effects.

I'll let you in on some of my inner monologue while I was watching.

    * What is that radar screen supposed to be showing anyway??
    * Ok so their secret bot-killing weapon has a range of six feet?? Methinks the need to go back to the drawing board on that one.
    * Those guns are recoiling but nothing is coming out.
    * Why do rebellious guys seem to always have Australian accents??
    * Come on... do it ... do it... YES!!!!.. LESBIAN KISS!!!!
    * Excuse me... sound guys?? Its best if the explosion don't drown out all the dialog.
    * He transforms in to a 5 inch gun to shoot a person?? Is that a bit of overkill??



Anyway all in all its can be enjoyably bad but a times its just plain bad. I actually got this rental for free since the guy at the video store turned out to be a TF fan and I got to talking to them about it. He scanned some coupon he had behind the counter that gave me the free rental.

A friend showed me the DVD cover and I laughed. I think he actually went and ordered it, along with some other ripoff films from the same company. There was a Pirates of the Carribean one too...

I kind of like the DVD cover, but it is ridiculous, because you just know what the cover promises won't be delivered by the film itself. And is it just me, or is there barely any "transmorphing" going on in this movie>

There are the air units that change in to bots, the ground units that somewhat morph to deploy a big friggin' gun. There was also one that changed from tank to a bot and of course the base that turned into a giant bot.

Overall though it wasn't very much and not really impressive looking.

I really enjoyed the new movie. I thought the bot designs were terrible at first but they really grew on me. Now I can't wait till next month when it will be out in IMAX so I can go see it again.

The director of this film has been on the IMDB message boards lately defending the hell out of himself and this movie.
The regulars over there have been pouncing all over him and I kind of feel some pity for him.

Take a look at his credits.
He seems to be right up our alley when it comes to B-movies because he's directed, produced and starred in a number of them.
