Candy (1968)

CANDY (1968) - A very 60's film with many stars like Richard Burton, Walter Matheau, Marlon Brando, James Coburn, and Ringo Star. This color film is hilarious with Richard Burton playing MacPhisto at the beginning of the movie. All the actors must of had a great time making this one. Even Marlon Brando seems to have show some good comic moments. Check it out I think you like it.

Kinda reminded me of BARBERELLA a little bit. Fun film. Richard Burton was to much.

I definitely did not appreciate this film as much as you did.  "Candy" is one of those movies that makes me feel dirty and unhappy the whole time.  Probably the fact that it was trying to push a message the whole time.  

I've written the review draft for this one and, for some reason, in it I start musing about Macho Man Randy Savage appearing and bodyslamming Candy - causing her "vacant eyes to roll back in her empty head."

Egad, this is a travesty.  Maybe Ken Begg will stop by and back me up here.

I'm sure your company over there in Iraq may have been affended (or not) by the Walter Matheau part of the film during the recent movie night. I didn't take the scene too seriously.

The film as a whole is somewhat politcally incorrect, but that is the message the "liberals" have been trying to get across now for some 40 years now. CANDY just may be a good time capsule and epitaph for that movement when ever it is finished. They haven't been doing to good at the polls lately.

I kinda liked it as it was colorful and outrageous, but your right about the female lead.

Guys, if you read the book you'll figure out the problem. You can't turn a soft-core porn novel into a PG film. The James Coburn character in the novel isn't a surgeon but a sex therapist whose experiements all have to do with sex. These scenes couldn't even be filmed today, even in an adult film.

Just caught this one on DVD. God this is boring! This is a sex comedy that manages to be neither sexy nor funny (although the scenes with James Coburn are amusing). Thank God for the fast forward button.

How they managed to get all these people in this movie, is a mystery: there's Richard Burton, John Huston, Ringo Starr,James Coburn,  Charles Aznavour, Marlon Brando, Walter Matthau, John Astin (twice), Florinda Bolkan, Elsa Martinelli, Anita Pallenberg... Even more incomprehensible is that the script writer also wrote The Graduate.

The DVD had a small featurette about the making of. It was very funny to see Walter Matthau predict a great future fot Ewa Aulin.

I kinda liked CANDY. Being a Marlon Brando fan this was one of the last of his films that I've seen and he was ok in it, but I thought Richard Burton out did him here, and "yes" Colburn was also good.
