A while back, i asked which monster type you prefered....big and slow and unstoppable...or small, fast, but killable on the individual level. Well, with 8 legged Freaks, ladies and Gents, looks like we get the best of both worlds! Big...and fast. Now thats scary!  Also, we could put "Reign of Fire" in that catagory. What say you all? Lookin good, hummmm?........

Eight Legged Freaks stars Mr. Courtney Cox and Kari Wuhrer. It will be crap, but perhaps entertaining crap.

Eight Legged Freaks looks terrible, one because the ever annoying David Arquette is in it and two because its made by the same people who did godzilla 1998 and Independance Day. Reign of Fire looks to have more promise really.

Exactly, I saw a commercial for this on tv.  "From the makers of Independence Day and Godzilla..."

That's all I needed to hear.

Squishy

At least Emmerich and Devlin have moved on from ripping off "classic" movies with strong followings--Earth Vs. The Flying Saucers, The Beast From 20,000 Fathoms, Star Wars, etc.--and are instead ripping off fetid grot from the MST3K basement. Let's face it: Eight Legged Freaks is The Giant Spider Invasion with money.

I'm surprised Reign of Fire isn't getting more noise. The effects look excellent and it has a respectable cast; however, it may suffer from its awful trailer: Real fire-breathing dragons? In modern London? (Actually, future London?) Reproducing into the millions in the space of a year? A lot of superfluous detail in all that, hard to follow and hard to swallow, and the plausibility was already weak to begin with. I'm curious as to how falling into a dragon's mouth is supposed to help...

I've made it a rule to never see a movie, no matter how good it sounds, that has an annoying little b***h (oops, I mean actor) in the cast.  The only exception is Road Trip.  Even though it  has Tom Greene, I still liked it.  Now  8LF is pleasing, even the trailers can get you hooked.  But, the fact, that it has David Arquette-your-ass-out-of-the-enterainment-business just turned me off completely.  It's bad enough we almost commited suicide after seeing those 1-800-CALL-ATT commercials, and a few others, but this?  If this movie didn't have HIM, I would've been watching it already.

As for Reign of Fire, I'm seeing it this weekend.  I love dragons (even Bruce Lee, lol).  I've seen Dragonheart, and it was a good movie.  I didn't like the fact that Draco had to die in the end.  And Flange, you mentioned the effectiveness of beast, whether slow and unstoppable, or quick but killable.  Spiders are good, but they're mutated.  Dragons, on the other hand, will charbroil you ass and disappear into the sky faster than you can say "Batman and Robin sucks"

Hummm....good points, guys. I diden't even notice the human casting. Like Joe Bob says, "The giant monsters are the stars, the human actors are furniture." The 8LF trailer got my attention by the spider attacks. I just figured the humans were Non Player Characters, so to speak. Mon-ster Fod-der!!
