The Burgomaster

This movie is available in Mill Creek's TOMB OF TERRORS 50 movie pack.

Depending on which source you read, this was made in either Australia, New Zealand or the United States.  Based on the accents, it clearly isn't a U.S. production.  But I'm ashamed to admit that I really can't distinguish between an Australian accent and a New Zealand accent so I'll just say "it comes from one of those two places."

This is one of those movies that really catches you off guard and confuses you.  It starts out as another "mad slasher" flick (this time, the killer wears a gas mask . . . a what???? . . . yup, a gas mask . . . did he escape from MY BLOODY VALENTINE and end up on the other side of the world . . . who knows?)  The killer stalks a bunch of teens and hacks them up with a sword.  One victim ends up sliced in half, with her legs facing one direction and her upper body facing the opposite way.  About half way through the movie, the killer's identity is revealed and suddenly this becomes a BASKET CASE type movie about a mad doctor who tries to re-connect Siamese twins (or, to be politically correct, conjoined twins) who had been surgically separated years earlier.  The scenes in the clinic are very surreal and sometimes confusing.  Overall, the movie left me sitting there staring at the TV screen thinking, "Huh?"

The production values are better than most of the other movies I've seen in the TOMB OF TERRORS and DECREPIT CRYPT OF NIGHTMARES 50 movie packs (see my recently posted comments about LAS VEGAS BLOODBATH, BARELY LEGAL LESBIAN VAMPIRES, PREHISTORIC BIMBOS IN ARMAGEDDON CITY, and TERROR TUNES).  But this is still a bad, cheapo movie that will leave you scratching your head.
"Do not walk behind me, for I may not lead. Do not walk ahead of me, for I may not follow. Do not walk beside me either. Just pretty much leave me the hell alone."
