Large Snake of a Boyfriend?

Its an old movie, late seventies or early eighties. Its about a guy and a gal that are dating/intereseted in one another. The girl's father is some kind of scientist and experiments on the boy turning him into a really large snake. I may be wrong, but if i remember right, after fully turning into the snake the boyfriend kills the dr. anybody got a clue?
