Plot holes, wooden characters, and bad dialogue are expected in a movie like this.  Get over it.

Maybe so, but did they have to send the lighting technicians home or did they go on strike or something?

in what part is this darkness you speak of?

I agree with Joe.  It was mostly done at night.  Night time scenes tend to be dark, and even then I saw everything clearly.

What lighting problems were there that weren't in the last bajillion Alien films starting with Ridley Scott's unique lighting styles in Alien [now THAT film was dark at times and great for it]

I was going to start a new thread but after some searching, I found this old thread and figured I'd post my opinion here.

I rented this on DVD for $1 from a Redbox vending machine last night and just finished watching it.

One word sums up this movie:
HYBRID
Definition:  "Genetics The offspring of genetically dissimilar parents or stock, especially the offspring produced by breeding plants or animals of different varieties, species, or races."

This movie is all about hybrids.
The predalien is a hybrid of the xenomorph and predator.
And AVP2 is literally a hybrid of all the Predator and Alien films combined.

-----------------------------------------

I thought AVP2 was great up until the Army Reserve forces arrived.  Up until that point, it was very original and had some decent buildup.

Once the Reserves show up, it basically went something like this:
Me:  "Hmmm...  They ripped that off from Aliens.  Hmmm...  They ripped that off from Predator."

One can look at these "thefts" in two ways.
a.) The film makers have the utmost respect for both franchises and wanted to include the best of both.
or..
b.) They "stole" from those other movies to make this film.

I think it's a bit of both.

When you hear the Army guys over the sheriff's radio fighting the aliens and the sound effects are almost IDENTICAL to Ripley listening to the Marines fighting the xenomorphs under the atmosphere processor in Aliens, you will cringe.

When you hear the older brother yell to his comrades, "Get to the chopper!" near the end, you will cringe.

I think I actually said out loud, "No they didn't!  No way they just did/said that!"
But yes, they did.
It's almost as if the writer got lazy after he wrote the first half of the movie.

There were a couple of "OH S**T!" moments in the movie.  Like when the Predator throws a couple of twin retractable blade throwing stars (we saw them in AVP1) down a long hospital hallway at two aliens and ends up killing one of the humans you were sure was going to live.

Over at Filmthreat.com, one of their reviewers stated that he left the film with a "bland aftertaste" in his mind and I felt the same.
The movie is all buildup with a lame payoff.

And yes, it totally is a hybrid of all the Alien & Predator movies combined.
Is that a good thing?
It could've been if it were written better and parts of it were not blatantly copied from the other films.
I give it 2.5 stars out of 4.

I don't care how bad it is, I'm hopelessly in love with these monsters.

This one is on my rental list...for after I get a flatscreen
"Do you have something against droppings?" "Well, no, I..." "Sure, everyone says that till they step in it."

I still haven't seen it.  From what I've read, it sounds like it might be a little better than the last one, but still, the last one turned me off to these movies forever.
The world is changed by your example, not by your opinion.
