Damn this movie p**sed me off.

THE COMPANY OF WOLVES is Neil Jordan's second film.  Essentially, it's a fairy tale, specifically Little Red Riding Hood.  But it's also a film about a young girl's budding sexuality, where the wolves symbolize the animalistic side of humanity.  But that's not the only stupid and obvious symbolism in the movie.  Oh no, the film's full of it.  ("Full of it" is right.)

Head over to the IMDb page, and read some of the reviews.  The film is rapturously received.  Well it annoyed me and I didn't like it.  I understood all the symbolism.  How could I not?  It's all so pigheadedly obvious.  If a pinprick doesn't work, use a sledgehammer.  Oh, she ran off the path.  Oh, now she's hugging and climbing a tree.  Gosh, there's a snake in the tree.  Now look, she's found a nest full of eggs with fetuses inside.  Subtle.

Really, this is one of those "old" fairy tales.  The kind much touted by Neil Gaiman.  The kind that mention menstrual blood.  If that's your cup of tea, you might like this.  I didn't.

I think we'd see more of these high concept horror projects if they didn't hurt so damn much when they failed.

Anyway, if you want to see an enternaining retelling of Little Red Riding Hood, I recommend FREEWAY instead.
Every dead body that is not exterminated becomes one of them. It gets up and kills. The people it kills, get up and kill.

I liked Company of Wolves , except for the ending.  The short story it's based on, by Angela Carter I believe, is much better.  Shorter, too.

I have yet to see this. I've heard alot of people say good things about it(alot of them happen to be people I don't trust) but for some reason I really want to check this out. Where do I find it? Thanks in advanced for helping me out.

Yeah... Company of Wolves sucked big time.  The worst part being the end when the wolves attack.  Here we see all sorts of dogs painted grey to look like wolves... It was hilarious.  I endured the whole damn movie hoping Little Red Riding Hood would show some skin or something and save the movie, but it didn't happen.  Also, yeah the symbolism was blatantly annoying.

It plays on the Independent Film Channel (IFC) occasionally.  I enjoyed it myself, but I suspect this one is largely a matter of personal taste.  Either you like this sort of thing or you hate it.  I liked the fact that it was unusual and tried to do something off the beaten path (not the same path LRRH went off of necessarily).  I get tired of the same old thing all the time and want something that at least tries to do something new, even if it isn't entirely successful

Akira Tubo

There is no middle ground in this movie as far as I can tell.  Either you like it or you hate it with all your heart and soul.

Me?  I actually liked it.  Don't know why but I did.

Hmm, I haven't seen it in years, though.  I'll have to rent it and see what I think now.

By golly! I think Akira Tubo has it." This is one of those movies, you either love or hate. There appears to be no middle ground on it. As for myself, I am another one that hated it.
