"NEW YORK (AP) - Britney Spears' family says "Dr. Phil" McGraw crossed the line by not keeping his mouth shut after making a house call on the singer last week.

Lou Taylor, a business manager for Spears' mother, Lynne, and younger sister, Jamie Lynn, appeared on NBC's "Today" show Wednesday and said McGraw had betrayed the family's trust by talking to the media about Spears' mental health after showing up at the 26-year-old pop star's hospital room on Saturday for a visit. "

I am just so glad to know where the Spears' draw the line.  Apparently DUIs, teen pregnancy, drug use are o.k., but not for a talk show host to, er, talk.

Did they make clear whether he was coming to see them in his professional capacity as therapist or as a media personality? One of those is supposed to include confidentiality as part of his professional services. Maybe they should have tried Dr. Drew Pinsky instead. "Dr. Laura" might have been a fun choice.

Next time go to a counselor/therapist who doesn't have an audience of millions and their own huge ego to feed.

Yeah, I wouldn't have called a TV shrink, especially if I was concerned about keeping it private. Sounds fishy to me.

I never have been able to stand Dr. Phil.  Yet something else that we can blame on Oprah for bringing to the masses.

I can say I have never seen one single episode of Dr. Phil and I'm a better person for it.

Spears' mother probably paid him to do it.

Attention-grabbing skeeze would do anything for a buck.

I've seen the show, used to do a so-so imitation of him to get at people I knew who liked his show.

I hadn't considered this being a sympathy ploy by the family with the not-good Dr. going along with it since he seems to be bad publicity proof. Now Britney's a victim for once rather than a self-indulgent, bad decision making, undertalented sex object rapidly passing her sell-by date.

Nah, that's too conspiracy minded for me.

Mr. DS

Oddly two people who I wish would be vanquished into a netherrealm are featured in the same story.

Oddly, I like Dr. Phil, but only as a pop-culture figure. As a TV shrink with a distinctive look and voice, he's a great subject for parody.

Can't stand his show and have no desire to read his books though.

Unlike punk rock or heavy metal...morons like Dr.Phil and Britney would be perfect for the DECLINE of WESTERN CIVILIZTION Part 4.
