There was a cartoon that aired in the early 90's or late 80's that was about monsters or zombies that played either football, hockey, or soccer....I can't remember. I do remember watching it when I was a kid and it being pretty darn graphic for a cartoon. You know guys gittin' there heads knocked off and stuff...Any thoughts? HELP!!

Mutant League Football?  I remember the videogame and it sounds like what you describe.  Apparently it spawn a cartoon at some point:
