All that stuff is so way overpriced..i refuse to pay 12 dollars for a box of unedible candies, Instead, I'll just spend twenty bucks on a new pair of stockings..besides i think that would make him happier anyways...

I know new stocking away makes me feel better, except when my hair pokes through and they cut off circulation to my ... oh never mind.

I saw so many guys in the city yesterday carrying boxes and bunches of flowers and I thought "poor buggers".  Valentines Day is such a scam, even worse than Christmas and Easter.  If you truly love someone, you should show them every day and not just once a year.

And I feel sorry for guys in general.  They usually get the whole romance thing wrong and then women go beserk and berate them for not outdoing their girlfriends or showing the proper love and respect.

And so I say a big HURRUMPH!! to yet another disgusting  example of capitalism/consumerism/commercialism/random other "ism" gone insane in our society.

We now return you to your regularly schedule programme.

BTW, Happy Valentine's Day to all those incurables out there.  I might be a cynic, but I'm a magnanimous cynic.

Heh heh heh! Well, I managed to get all the gifts for my girlfriend for under $20, so if this holiday is supposed to be some kind of scam to get into my wallet, I'd say it failed pretty miserably. Of course, when celebrating Valentine's Day, it helps not to be doing all of this gift-buying in hopes of being allowed to plunder the girl's booty in return, if you know what I mean.

Speaking of gifts, thanks again for suggesting that Woodiwiss novel for my girlfriend, KB. The other stuff I got her is all getting consumed pretty quickly, but I'll bet that novel's going to stick in her memory for years to come.

I'd have to agree about the "not just once a year" complaint, though. If the holiday's supposed to serve any purpose at all, it ought to be merely a kind of reinforcer for the relationship. When Valentine's Day gift-giving starts getting competitive, one has to start wondering whether it isn't just a fancier kind of prostitution. "The other johns are paying my coworkers far better for their whoring than you're paying me! No lovin' for you tonight, cheapskate!"

I bought Tara Sue a box of chocolites and a card that plays 'Dancing in the Streets' when you open it. Plus a box of frozen Eggrolls, some bagels and cream cheese, and some Ritz crackers.

There's no bad situation that can't be made better by a nice thick steak on the bbq!

Wait...
You're from Oz.  I thought it was a shrimp on the barbie?   :tongueout:

Shrimps are overrated.  Give me a good ol' steak any day

You're very welcome, Inyarear!

Karma to you for "plundering the girls' booty".  That's as romantic a line as I've ever heard and describes the act exactly!   :bouncegiggle:

Eh, well, I don't exactly see bedroom piracy as romantic, but sex-and-treasure metaphors always did strike me as rather apt expressions for these times. There's more to love than money, but if a guy's trying to get into your treasure chest, I say always make him buy it along with its key and pay the full price; nobody ever cherishes anything he can steal with a cheap lock pick for very long.
