Rambo's thread got me thinking about the old newspaper comics I used to read as a kid. So whats your guys favorite newspaper comics(they don't have to be in print anymore)?

For me:
Bloom County
Calvin and Hobbes
Peanuts
Garfield
Beatle Baily
Willy and Joe

Here is my list.

Bloom County
Calvin and Hobbes
The Far Side

Pretty much in that order.  I think that Bloom County is amazing.  I've also wanted to see more of the Li'l Abner strip, because I have run into a number of those comics that were interesting, but quite often hand picked selections - so the strip's overall level of quality is hard to say without reading more of them.

the older GARFIELD stuff,
and of course,

CALVIN AND HOBBES.

PEARLS BEFORE SWINE always cracks me up as well. HAHAHAHAHAA!!!

Over the Hedge, they still print it on Sundays but not during the week anymore, I'm also disappointed that they made a movie based on it.  Marmaduke's awesome, LOVE IT!!
Barbeque sauce tastes good on EVERYTHING, even salad.

RC, they still run Dick Tracey? I think I remember my grandfather saying that he read that as a kid! :teddyr:

Man I'm surprised that more than one person actually likes Bloom County. Of course I only got into the comic because my dad had huge collections of the comics.

Dick Tracy started in the early 30's....it was done by Chester Gould...( a MASTER ,IMHO) and he left it to various succsesors...but I have been collecting various Gould  era Tracy reprints and comics for a lonnnnnnnng time.

I always was interested in reading this comic, but I never seemed to have the time. And to be honest the Wiley and Joe comics I like so much were created by Bill Mualdin during World War 2. A pity hes gone now,  rest in peace bud!:cheers:

Calvin and Hobbes- Never read it while in print, but have several of the book collections.
The Far Side- Same as above.
Get Fuzzy- I think it's possibly the best one going today, and I have a book of it's collections as well as two calendars they put out.
Garfield- I was introduced to him by the cartoon in the '80s, and have several of the collections of the older strips from the '70s to early '80s.  Still read it regularly.
Crankshaft- I like it.  Kinda reminds me of my grandfather sometimes.

I'm a proud owner of the Complete Fars Side AND the Complete Calvin and Hobbs! So no more skimming the papers for me....

Used to enjoy Garfield, but no more somehow. Similar with the Peanuts. But still, I consider these as classics.

I always felt that US newspaper comics are better by far than over here. When in the States I also enjoyed Get Fuzzy, Pearls before Swine, "What'shisname" and Frank (probably the other way around), and many more.

I absolutely hated Dennis the Manice, which, unfortunately, is also very popular over here.
