Nice.  I love LAURINDO ALMEIDA.  One of the best Pop albums yet, and one of my all-time favorites, is SAMMY DAVIS JR. Sings LAURINDO ALMEIDA Plays  Highest recommendation.

I'm listening to CAPTAIN BEEFHEART and HIS MAGIC BAND Mirror Man Sessions

Laurindo is terribly underrated.  He didn't get the opportunity to record that many albums under his own name, but he was proficient in classical, jazz and bossa nova guitar.  Unbelievable chops.

I did add that LA/SD collaboration to my wishlist based on your rec, AHD.

Will get back to some more Laurindo later, but right now I'm trying out a different performance of Bartok's String Quartet's:

Bartók: String Quartets No.5 & 6 (performed by the Arcanto Quartett)
Sample: String Quartet No. 5, Sz.102: I. Allegro

I can't hear the difference between this critically praised performance and my old critically savaged version by the Vermeer Quartet.

Charles Mingus - Let My Children Hear Music,
I don't know Let My Children Hear Music, I like earlier MINGUS more, the whack, but I really like CHARLES MINGUS.   You inspired me to listen to KEN BURNS JAZZ   One of the best gifts I ever received.  I did have quite a few of the recordings across these discs, particularly the swing, BILLIE HOLLIDAY, and the later Jazz and Pop, but still, I got so many wonderful early recordings, plus the best LOUIS ARMSTRONG (despite having 5 or 6 CDs worth, including with THE HOT FIVES) that I did not have, plus yet another alternate recording of BILLIE singing "In My Solitude" (Yeh, I don't listen to Lady much anymore, but I still love her).   Over the five discs, it created a monster.  I will never be satisfied until I have all JAMES JOHNSON, ART TATUM, GENE KRUPA, MA RAINEY, ETHEL WATERS, CHARLIE PARKER, DIZZY GILLESPIE, MJQ, THELONIUS MONK recordings... Though perhaps not perfect, I'm a big fan of BURNS' films.

Umm... Mingus... [drools].

Ran across Les Brown's original swing arrangement of The Nutcracker Suite today.  I was familiar with Brian Setzer's version, which I still like better because of the surf guitar.
