look. I'm sorry i don't happen to fit into the two prevailing ideologies of either liberal orconservative. that doesn't mean i'm some misanthrope who agitatees people for the hell of it. I'm just anti-state whether it's welfare or warfare. 81% of the country thinks we are on "the wrong track" so maybe give me a little leeway in at least opting for a different way of looking at things. I'm sorry if in doing so I challenge some of your notions of history, some held quite strongly apparently.

again, i will stick to lighter subjects. But I honestly don't see why there is such a big fuss about this stuff. it's okay to say that muslims are all bad and need to be nuked, but not that maybe we could have ended slavery peeacefuly like every other civilized nation instead of 600,000 people, virtually none of whom had anything to do with slavery, being slaughtered.

I most certainly WASN'T saying that it was okay nuke muslims, I'm saying that hateeful remarks towards those peoples are tolerated while asking questions about our history aren't. sheesh. try to at least read the entire sentence.

Aside from a typo or two, it is basically a comparison of degrees for the purpose of setting an example; not a statement of the writer's philosophy.

If someone wants to extract a portion of a sentence and comment on its meaning out of context...well...any third grader could do that (my apologies to third graders everywhere

).

It's fine if someone wants to disagree with lester, vote him down, or call him an ass (I get called that a lot myself). It does, however, look a little silly to base all of the aforementioned (the former, if you prefer) on a non-contextual extraction.

Just my opinion, though.

I think this thread was meant to be in a much lighter note, Lester - not as an ad hominem attack on you. I have said before and will say again, that while I disagree pretty strongly with much of what you say, I respect your courage in putting your opinions out there, knowing they are gonna get slammed. You have the courage of your convictions, and that is a rare thing.

Don't get me going on slavery again, though . . . . .

Personally, I am offended by people who are offended by others. Oops, I just offended myself!

While I tend to stay out of political discussions, I will say lester, keep posting as you feel you need to. I'm not as militant a libertarian as you, but I do lean that direction. I may not agree with you on everything (I don't agree with anyone 100%, especially cannibals--hah! that's a lunch joke!), but ideas never hurt anybody, and this board is usually a good, civil place to exchange ideas, at least as long as your screen name isn't wyrewizard.
